I design and print greeting cards and had a very hard time finding a reliable printer that could handle 80 lb. card stock. I called Canon and customer service put me through to a technician who was able to provide me with the information I needed. This printer is a dream, and while I didn't want an inkjet at first, I have come to really enjoy using it. I will be able to expand my business with photo cards, prints, etc. (once I learn how to do borderless printing, lol), and lots of other sizes, as well. I also found the price very reasonable compared to other professional printers on the market. Very satisfied with my purchase.
The manual is a pdf that is well over 600 pages long. It is a complicated photo printer and uses Canon ink and Canon exclusive paper. It produces prints as close to a darkroom print as you will ever accomplish with its 4800x2400 dot per inch and the 8 ink cartridges are relatively cheap at the price IF you can find them outside of mail order. I do not recommend it to someone of average intelligence. The manual as seen at the Canon site needs extreme edit because it rambles on and on. No one carries the complete line of paper. The 8 inks are not carried at any local store so they have to be ordered on line. With temperatures we are currently seeing that may not be very practical. Unless Canon produces franchises for these products locally and people to teach us how to use this machine despite its superb engineering the marketing of this product will defeat it in the market place.
Pretty much works as advertised, fairly straight forward to setup and use. There are some quirks that may be easy to fix, like having to manual select new paper size if print job mismatches default. But that can be good if you have preloaded something different a couple days ago that you forgot about already. Anyway, it's like having a mini old-style line plotter at home.
Great Printer! Prints beautifully on a wide variety of media. I prefer Hahnemühle Matt Fibre.
No US manufacturer warranty
Something to consider, relatively small footprint, excellent quality, not too hard on the wallet
Easy to set up, printed great pictures with first try!
The PIXMA Pro-200 gives you great image quality with dye-based ink - the image quality is worth five stars, but... It gobbles inks surprisingly fast and the inks are expensive, and it doesn't recognize the ICC profiles for papers from other manufacturers. It requires you interact with it every time you turn it on and that can be inconvenient if the printer is not in the same room you're in. Those are worth a one-star deduction, but if I needed another Pro-200, I would buy it again.
I bought this a week ago fron in-store I've always been a fan of his but so far I'm liking this cannon product much better Although the 1st day I couldn't print from my laptop [chrome] .. by the time I figured it out I gad run out of ink. I am going to ask for a replacement of my black ink.?
I can't recommend this printer. It's been a source of issues since I got it. I never had that many issues with the previous version, a Pixma 100. Just when I needed to print again this week, Murphy's law, I can't get one usable print from the 200. I've spent many hours to fix, using everything I know about these printers, calibration, profiles, you name it. Nothing. At this point, it's just a piece of plastic junk.
