I already have the large version of this crate but needed a small one to be able to transport my cats to the vet. These crates are the best quality I have seen. Very sturdy and attractive. The wires are a black coated steel so it's not likely to rust. It's so easy to setup, out of the box you just unfold it and secure a couple hooks. The small crate is 20” H, 18” W and 24” L. And weighs about 13 lbs. It's the perfect size for one small pet but you could also comfortably fit two. There's also a wire separator that you can put inside that just hooks on. That would be perfect if you have 2 in there that tend to argue. My favorite feature is that it folds up for easy storage when you are done with it. Folded up it's only 2-3/4” high. It has 2 doors, one on the front and one on the side. Both have the double locking system. There isn't a door on the top like some of the larger models. You can clean the bottom plastic pan by sliding it out. It's a great little crate and my cats actually love being in it.
The crate was very easy to put together. As soon as you open the box, it is already assembled. All you have to do is lay it with the tray down (just like it will be when the dog is in it) and unfold it all the way. The latches are a little tricky to get all the way in place **some of the hooks latch to different parts of the cage**. Missed a few at first but then once I gave it a once over, I connected them all. The dog pictured is a 70lb German shepherd. She had plenty of room in the large crate. You can also keep both doors and place the crate in a position where both doors are accessible. If not it also comes with an extra panel so if you don't want the double door, you can take one door off and put the extra piece on which will replace one of the doors. The tray is removable which makes it easy to clean I found the crate to be pretty sturdy and would recommend it for a large dog; the crate has a lot of room for the dog to turn around if it wished to face any particular direction.
I am attaching some pictures so you can get an idea of the size. The stock pictures, make it hard to tell the size, and I had to look up dimensions on the actual brand site. The first thing I noticed when I took it out of the box was the fact that it was in one piece (first picture) I have never had a cage like this before, as my dogs cage was one that you had to put together. If it wasnt for my boyfriend, I dont know how long it would have taken me to figure out what to do, as the instructions were INSIDE the cage that you had to set it up in order to get them out! Once my boyfriend helped, it was together in less than one minute! We set it up in the same place and same way as my dogs old cage, and he jumped right in. He wouldnt even come out, because he liked it so much! I am attaching a picture with my dog inside it (he is a 10 pound chihuahua) so you can see the size. I love this size, because it is perfect for my dog. It is a bit longer than his old one, but the width is pretty similar. Definitely recommend this!!!!!
This intermediate size dog crate is easy and fast to set up. It also folds up flat which is a nice saving feature for storage or transport. It is very sturdy and heavy at 22 pounds of steel which is perfect for holding larger size dogs. I would like to clarify the intermediate size dimensions as the description online is vague with the different sizes. It is 25 inches high, 23 inches wide and 36 inches long so it is quite large. It also comes with a divider panel which is not listed in the description. I'd also like to point out it has a latch on the side of the crate which holds it together when in the folded position to lock. This needs to be unlatched to open. The information telling you this is located inside the crate which you can't access until it's opened. The divider in a nice option as it's useful for puppies. Some puppies like to be in smaller spaces as they feel more secure. Also, in house training many won't soil where they sleep so not having access to the other side of the crate prevents them from soiling on the other side. Another use for the divider if if you have 2 dogs which can then be separated. The crate has 2 doors with 2 slide latches on each door. The doors allow for better placement in your home as the crate is not restricted to only one side access. Also, when the crate is placed in the back of a vehicle such as an SUV having 2 doors gives more options to be able to open. For cleaning purposes though, the hard plastic removable tray can only be removed from the front position where it easily slides in and out. The crate is attractive as it is a sleek black in color which blends well in the home unlike many of the chromes. The wire is thick and spaced nice and close for the safety of your dogs paws and teeth not getting stuck in the wire but certainly wide enough for your dog to easily see out. This is one of the nicest crates out there for the price and the small confusions in description should not dissuade your purchase as it's a great product.
I am so happy with this crate! I own several large dog crates that I use for all size dogs and cats, but this is our first small one. My family is involved in animal rescue transport and the large cage can sometimes be a real pain. The large cage can only fit in one auto and is way too big and bulky for cat transports. This cage is perfect for most of the animals and I don't know why I never bought one before. Just always thought bigger is better and bigger always works. This cage is designed the same, just smaller. It's lighter and easier to move and place. It fits in all the autos and because it has two doors, placing it is never an issue. Everyone can handle it without struggling. Like the bigger cages, it is a breeze to assemble. All you do is unfold, pop it up and into place. Really NO assembly! And reverse to break down for a simple whole piece to store. It has clear instructions, but probably not necessary for most people. It is very well made with strong bars. The coated metal doesn't have any spots of jagged or sharp metal pieces to scratch you or the animals. The tray is easy to pull out, clean and return. The latches are easy to slide. They don't stick and they stay latched. There is a separator included. I haven't had a need for it but I like having it. Transporting two for adoption is way better than one, so I'll be ready with it if I get a chance! I am very happy with the quality of this cage and highly recommend it.
The Carlson Compact and Secure Double Door Metal Dog Crate in size intermediate is one of the nicest dog crates I've used. I have two miniature pinschers that I crate together at night, so this is the perfect size to house both of them with plenty of space for toys, or for a much larger dog to restrict night-time movement. The intermediate size is 36" long, 22.5" wide, and 25" tall. The crate ships in a cardboard box and it easy to assemble. It's just a matter of lifting the top section and allowing the sides to come up with it. Then you use the clamps to secure the ends. The crate comes with an insert panel that you can use to divide the interior space if needed. This would be good if you want to keep dogs separate, or minimize the space a puppy has as it grows. In this sense it's modular and will grow with your dog. The other fantastic feature of this crate is that it has two doors. You might wonder why this is necessary, and I can give you two good reasons. First, if you are using the separation panel it will allow two small dogs on either side to exit/enter at the same time. You won't have to mess around with opening/locking two doors. Second, if you like to move your crate around, you'll find that it doesn't always fit perfectly in one position. If you want to use it the wide way, you can use the larger, wider front door. If you want to use it the narrow way, you can use the narrower end door. Each door has two slide locks that are very durable. Some crates come with three, but it can be cumbersome latching them all. These are positioned so that just two locks will secure the door for most purposes. The metal wire is coated so it's not rough. There is no material flaking off. In the bottom is a single rigid slide-out tray. It's about an inch deep so will contain "spills". The tray slides from the front (wider side), easily. Cleaning is a breeze. Simply slide out the tray and spray it down. Because the intermediate size crate is a standard size, you can find a lot of cushions to fit it perfectly. The wire slats are about 1.5" apart, narrow enough to keep most dogs from getting their noses out through, though a chihuahua or other tiny dog might manage it, but they definitely couldn't get their head out. The doors swing rather stiffly, but this should loosen up at they are used. The crate itself is quite heavy and it didn't come with handles to allow for easy carrying. The crate also folds down easily for storage or transportation. Once it's folded there is a latch that holds the panels securely in place. All in-all, this is a fantastic crate with multiple uses, whether it's for a single large dog, multiple small dogs, or to grow with your puppy.
This dog crate was a lot bigger than I thought. It says intermediate, but it is a very large crate. Getting the crate put together was an ordeal. Even though it is supposed to be an easy job it wasn't because the hooks that are attached to the different sides of the crate tends to latch onto the bars and it can be frustrating. We stuck to it and was able to get the crate together. Besides the hooks on the rate sticking the other problem was attaching the barred cover above the pan in the crate. Not only was it an issue getting it attached, it just did not fit well. Not only that but because the cover had the same width and spaces that the bars on all sides of the crate had, both of my dogs kept getting their paws stuck in it. One of my dogs started to panic because he couldn't get his paw out and had to be assisted so I just took the cover out. It is only big enough to cover either the front or the back of the crate anyways so it won't be missed. The crate itself looks amazing, it is pitch black and has a rust prevention coating on it.
This is not just a crate to put your pet into, this is a really nice black coated wire crate. It is 48 inches by 33 inches by 30 inches, and has a back plastic tray in the bottom for easy cleaning. The tray is not a thin plastic but gives good support when the pet is in the crate. When you receive it you will find it folded onto itself. After pulling the top section to the side you pull the unit up and you have the bottom with a tray and the back and front and the roof section all together. Now you pull up the end sections and you are done. Now for the best part, you have two very large doors, one on the end and one on the side and they are big enough to get in and clean up the cage, to change bedding and all that we do for our beloved pets. You will be so pleased with the double lock deadbolt style on each door. Most crates are probably used for dogs, but mine will be used for my cat. I needed an area big enough for my cat, his litter box, and food and water. My cat needs a safe place when I have work done in my house as he is scared of strangers and this will provide him his safe place when needed. I set it up in my living room for him to get familiar with it and it did not take long. I save the cardboard that the crate was shipped in to set it upon, until I can get a rug the correct size, this crate at a guess is between 35-45 pounds and is not that heavy but is big to move from place to place. I would recommend you set it up where it is going to be used. This crate is going to provide many years of safety for my cat at present and will be with for any future pets that come into my life. I appreciate the product as a well put together and can tell it is not a one time use, but is meant to be used through many pets. I will tell my friends and family how please I am with this product so they can consider this as an option for their future purchases.
This is the biggest dog crate Ive ever seen. 48"Lx33"hx30"w. Its made from black heavy metal wire. Has a full plastic tray at the bottom that is easily removed for cleaning. Assembly is very quick, no tools needed. Instructions are clear and easy to follow. The two doors allow for entry at the end or side of the crate. Nice feature that can be made use of depending on your placement. Also has a separator to use as the dog grows and can be moved and replaced to adjust the size and only takes a minute. Crate is heavy and more than a handful for one person to move around. Strong with 2 latches on each door. The bed shown in the picture is an average 30"x30" dog bed. This crate can fit two of these with room to spare. This one is made for the BIG DOGS!
Due to emergency surgery for my cat, I didn't have time to file a return and find another crate to use. It's too bad because I have 2 others that I have had for years and use without issue. The plan was to connect the 3 together, end to end, to make a larger cage area. That part was fine. The side gate latches have to be forced to latch and unlatch. Receiver receptacles are welded in place, out of alignment, not adjustable to allow the slide to latch without struggle. It will probably be thrown into the scrap metal pile when I am done with it.
