I used this product in tandem with my crime scene unit for 4th graders. I did use the “alien” lesson that came with the kit to help students (and myself) understand blood typing, but the rest of the activities did not apply to my unit, so I modified the instructions to better fit my class' needs. It was one of their favorite things we've done all year!
The kit was very helpful. My students enjoyed being able to see the reactions between the antigens and antibodies. Definitely made the whole concept more "real" to them.
I used this kit in my Anatomy class to teach about blood types. I was able to create an extended lab that examined blood evidence from a crime scene. The task was to determine which suspects could not have been at the crime scene.
I ordered this for my STEM club and it was a hit! And since not many of the kiddos wanted to use their own blood, this worked out great.
this product is clean, efficient, and illustrates the principles of blood typing perfectly. I actually bought it out of my own pocket, I wanted my students to use it so much. perfect for a biology, genetics, anatomy & physiology, and forensic science class (the latter being what i used it for)
I have been using this kit for several years now with my elementary science classes. It is a quality product and is easy for kids to use. I like that you can order refills for the fluids. That helps save our meager budget.
I have used this lab numerous times to explain antigens and agglutination of mixing blood types. Kids love it and it gives them the "hands on" step necessary to really grasp this concept with confidence.
Works perfectly, easy to follow, simple cleanup. Makes blood donor/receiver compatabiliy easy to understand. Really fun to use in forensic / crime-solving style labs. This would be a 5 star product if there were multiple vials of each antibody, so that groups of 4-6 could share a set. A line of 30 kids waiting for a single item (3 times over) is a no-go.
This lab was a great way to show students the process of blood typing. My only challenge was that there is only one container of each sample and of each serum, so each group didn't have their own set. It was easy enough for everyone to pass everything around group to group, but would have preferred enough samples for a few groups to work independently of each other.
This is a good blood typing kit that is safe to use. I use this with my freshman biology classes, and they enjoy it. My one complaint is that the serum vials run out quickly - especially the serum D vial; as a result, some of my students could not test for the RH factor.
