I've been using this fly mask (with ears) on both of my horses for lunging and riding. So far I'm very impressed. It is effective at keeping flies and gnats away from their eyes and ears so they are less inclined to toss their heads when I'm trying to have a productive training session. There seems to be no impairment of their vision and, in fact, I think they can see better through this fly mask than the masks that I use for turnout. The material is durable and easy to rinse clean but I would not use this fly mask for turnout as my 2 horses would certainly rub it on something harsh and tear it. I only bought 1 since I wasn't sure of the size. The horse size adjusts to fit both my draft cross gelding (large head) and my smaller Lusitano mare. If I splurge and get a second one for next summer, I'll buy the horse size again.
I like this fly mask because it is light weight and easy for my mare to see through. The ears are nice too and the little biting gnats can't bother her at all. I love the soft, screen like texture and my mare's name is on the nose which brings lots of friendly comments from the rest of the ranch.
While I already did love this fly mask for trail rides, I most recently fell more in love with this mask for its durability in turnout with my mare. My marerecently went through some bouts of puffy eyes/allergy issues which required close monitoring and eye meds. She normally wears the regular patterned Cashel fly masks, but it is tough to see through that mask at a glance. I was hesitant to use this Quiet Ride mask in turnout thinking it would be shredded in a couple of hours but have been pleasantly surprised that this mask is still 100% intact 1 month later! Honestly, she may continue to live in this mask for the rest of the season so I can continue to monitor her eye and I'm so happy that Cashel has created such a durable fine mesh fly mask. This mask does fit perfectly to size.
I love that this mask shows the horse face so that was a big selling point for me. I hate seeing a horse with a grey fly mask on and no face can be seen. I have a delicate thoroughbred and was not sure the horse size wouldn't be too large for his slender nose but it fit fine. Also, I can't rate the durability because I have only tried it on, not used it yet. I got my horses name embroidered on the nose and it looks great. Other reviewers said they got this service free, but I had to pay for it and it is worth it. The only thing I am wondering about is that the area at the eyes is quite close and doesn't stand out very far at all like most masks so I do hope it wont cave in and bother my horses eyes. The fabric is not stiff at all but quite soft so maybe that will not be an issue. It is a soft mask with soft edges so I think you will be happy with this one.
This fly mask has lasted the longest out of all of the fly masks I have purchased. I use this fly mask for turnout too. My horse is very hard on his masks and this one just keeps holdin on! It is my favorite mask because of its weight. This mask is so light weight and breathable, perfect for hot Florida summers.
I love this fly mask! It's super soft and the fleece doesn't make my horse sweat around the ears like most. I actually use this on my horse all day while she's in the stall even though it says it's for riding use and she loves it. I wouldn't use it in a pasture though because the soft mesh would probably rip easily. Arab size fit my 15 hand QH great!
This is a nice mask, I ordered it a while ago and finally tried it on today to find out it's too large. I have a draft x warmblood and he has a huge head with big ears but the “warmblood” size was hilariously too big. Ordering him “horse” size from now on.
My horse is a big baby with the bugs when we trail ride. This definitely helps a lot! I wish it came in a lighter color, I just feel like it would be easier for him to see through. I was concerned it might make him spook if he could not see well, but so far, no issues with that, so maybe the black is fine. Have only had a few weeks so can not speak for durability but it seems well made and is easy to put on/off.
I turn my horse out in the quiet ride as opposed to the standard fly mask that Cashel puts out. I find he doesn't sweat as much, if at all in this mask. I like the light weight material better than the standard ones. This mask doesn't seem as firm around the eyes so you have to do some finagling to make sure it doesn't touch their eyelashes. Overall pleased with the purchase.
I was excited to get this mask for riding. The fine mesh and most of the design features seem great. However, the regular horse size, which was generous on my horse in almost every way, came way too close to his eyes (his eyelashes made contact with the mesh), so I can't use it. This surprised me since the horse-size Cashel turnout mask fits him perfectly. He is a relatively small warmblood (about 16 hands). Same problem for my friend's small warmblood with a more refined head. I suppose the warmblood size might work, but I fear that will be too big in other ways. I would advise measuring your horse's head carefully according to the size chart before ordering.
