I have several Casio watches and this has to be the best one I own. There are better versions of it out there, of course, but if you're not fuzzy about the other features or don't mind changing batteries every two years, this should be more than enough.
I purchased a Casio DW5600E-1V about 20 years ago. I noticed that the face was getting dimmer and was harder to read. I replaced the battery, but there was no real change in the brightness. I went online and found this exact same watch on the Walmart website and purchased it. When it arrived, I compared the new one to the old one. No comparison! The new one was definitely brighter that the old one and swapped out my watch band to the new Casio. I really like this watch and hopefully it will last me another 20 years!
Great watch at a decent price. Not too small, not too big and chonky. Band is much more comfortable than cheaper, non G-Shock Casios. Has a nice weight to it, would completely recommend!
I’ve been a G Shock wearer since 1988 when I got my first one. The old ones were stainless steel under the resin...and the resin generally didn’t last long before it would crumble. The new DW5600 is much improved. The resin seemingly lasts forever and the watch it’s self is a polycarbonate which is not only stronger...it’s lighter and thinner though they look the same from the exterior. These new ones (this came out in 96) have a much better EL backlight as well. What makes this truly great is the features. It has everything you need and nothing you don’t. Time/day/date, countdown timer, alarm, stopwatch...and it shows the current time in all modes...the only g shock with this feature. It doesn’t have worthless world time screens to get most in and doesn’t waste any space in the watch face with second counter gizmos that take precious space and add zero functionality. The battery life is way under rated by Casio...most of mine have gone between 5-10 years fwiw. It’s also the toughest of the g shock lineup holding several world records for various feats. Other important things to note is the profile...it’s thin enough to easily slip under a shirt or jacket cuff which is especially nice for me as I’m a fire fighter and it slides under the sleeve of my turnout gear as my other bulky g shocks wouldn’t. It’s also very stylish with its retro 80s appearance. Can’t say too many great things bout this watch. If you want a tough, go anywhere, do anything accurate and reliable time piece look no further. It’s the best watch money can buy
I have had this watch before and when the battery died I decided to replace it rather than get a new battery. I wear it every day and also dive with it. It is a simple design and does not bulge out like many of the newer Casios. It does everything I need it to do and I rarely bump into doors and so forth like I'm sure I would with larger watches. I am also not interested in adding more complicated technology in my life. This watch tells me the time, digitally, the day of the week and date, has an alarm and stopwatch/timer features. That is all I need from a watch, but I understand others might want some fancier features.
I just purchased my fourth Casio G-Shock watch. My first one was when they first came out. I scuba dive and when Casio made a watch good for 300m with a stop watch and count down alarm for around $35 back then I jumped on it. I would set the count down alarm for my planned bottom time and could hear the alarm at depth real well. Pressing the buttons at depth never caused a leak. I was hooked on Casio from then on. I used the regular alarm function as my morning alarm clock until age robbed me of my high frequency hearing. Now I wear one because it's simply rugged and waterproof. I wear it surf fishing, swimming, and I still dive but only when I can hook up with my "old" buddies. As a former Industrial Engineer, I still find myself taking time studies at the DMV and Disney World. (Only an IE would appreciate that) I also use the stop watch when I'm grilling outdoors. This watch is just a classic in design and function. I've looked at other digital watches but they just don't compete in fit and function. I keep buying replacements after the battery dies because they never seem to have waterproof integrity once the initial factory seal is broken. Plus after 8 to 10 years of daily wear they do get a little crusty from outdoor activity where the watch is never removed from the wrist. Save yourself a few bucks and order your Casio G-Shock from Walmart online.
I bought this to replace my 20 year old Casio G-Shock watch. I needed a plastic band because I'm a high voltage electrician. I wore it snorkeling in the Caribbean and it stayed water tight. The only reason I replaced my old one is because I broke the battery holder trying to replace it. They are a great watch and a great value.
The stock photo is incorrect for this item and only reason I am giving it a 4 star, which is not Casio's fault. I own 4 Casio G-Shocks and plan to own more. I thought I was getting what the photo showed (older version of DW5600E-1V model) with electro luminescent blue backlight instead I got the new version with the white LED backlight. With online shopping the item photos need to be correct since you don't see them in person.
Writing a Review for this NEW Casio G-Shock 5600 is difficult.. Will it LAST 26 years like my 1st Casio G-Shock 5600 did? Will it ONLY need (2) Batteries replaced in it's lifetime? Will It ONLY need (3) wrist bands and (1) Bezel cover replaced in 26 years? This Casio G-Shock looks almost Identical to the $80.00 G-Shock given to me by a close friend 30 years ago, Minus the "Screw Back pictured below", those Vintage watches are going for $300-$500 if you can find them. I Could never keep a watch in good working order, UNTIL my 1st Casio G-Shock 5600 and that watch became a part of me when I worked as a U.S. Army M.P., City of Las Vegas, Corrections Officer and well into my civilian life.. It's Fair to say I Have High Hopes for my New Casio G-Shock 5600 "Reason for the 4 stars", but it has some Big Shoes to fill and Time will Tell.. No pun intended..
The listing for this watch *********E-1V specifically noted that the watch backlight was electro-luminescent and the photo of the watch showed the electro-luminescent label as well. The watch that arrived had an LED backlight which is a different technology and is a different lighting appearance. The listing needs to be updated to reflect this. The Casio G-Shock DW-*********-1V originally featured an electro-luminescent (EL) backlight, but newer versions, designated as DW-*********-1, use an LED backlight.
