Casio FX-300ES Scientific Calculator

Anonymous May 6, 2010

For 15 years, I have been using a Casio FX-300SA calculator, and I was always impresssed by its ability to work with fractions. This new version not only works with fractions, but when a problem does not evaluate to a whole number, the calculator will give you the result as a fraction, which you can convert to a decimal number with the push of a button, if you like. You can enter problems exactly as they appear in a test or textbook, with or without multiplication signs, and the calculator will give you the answer just as it would appear in the book. It handles exponents and roots of any index, and always gives you the result in a useful format. No more obscure numbers with 15 decimal places. For any price, this is the best calculator value on the market.

Great for ACT/SAT

Highlander48 April 7, 2010

As a math teacher of 35+ yrs experience, I feel that this is the best inexpensive calculator for any national standardized test. Although it is not accepted for the GED test until 2012, I believe the other standardized tests allow it now. The advantage is that this calculator gives the answer in the form expected on the test. For a simple example, given the problem square root of 2 times square root of 3, most calculators will give 3.464... , which will not be one of your choices. The Casio will give you square root of 6, which is how the answer will show up on the test. Not only that, but the Casio allows you to put numbers in just as you see them in the problems. Most calcs in this price range require you to enter operations backwards (reverse notation) such as 9, then square root, to get 3. On the Casio screen, your entries actually look like what you see on the page. Although it take a wee bit to get used to this, it is worth the effort. (I still prefer the TI graphing calculators over Casio, but this is the best scientific calculator under $20).

Amazing Calculator

Dmat4 October 22, 2011

I bought a second one of these calculators after I thought I had lost my first. This calculator is fast and powerful. I love that I can edit what I put in and check to make sure I didn't make any typos. It also makes it incredibly easy to fix my mistakes. Unless I absolutely have to graph something, I use this calculator over my TI-84 Plus. Awesome!

Gets me good grades

havecreditcardwillshop March 23, 2009

I picked up one of these a few years ago at Sam's Club and it does just about every thing that we do in my college math classes. Being able to enter equations like the book or test has increased my average score from 91 to 96 and 99's. I highly recommend it especially if you have kids that don't understand math too much but love using electronic devises. Tell them to enter the problem just like the book and they will start getting better grades. I havent' figured out how to use it with variables like x+y=10 but it does great if functions like f(x)=2

Teacher recommends

TeacherAtTheRoc April 17, 2012

I teach high school Geometry and this is the calculator I recommend for my students. I've tried most all brands, used to be hooked on Texas Instruments and HP, but this Casio model has won me over. It is approved for use on Florida High School End of Course Exams, and it will reduce radicals to the simplest form. Most other calculators on the approved list do not do this. The ANS button is plus, enables you to put the last calculated answer into any problem. Easiest to use, does the most in its class.

Fantastic calculator!

Serrano14 June 2, 2012

I have used this calculator for 2 years now. It is amazing! This is a great calculator for using in class and on tests. It is fairly simple and makes a lot of things simpler. For example, this calculator saves time by simplifying radicals and fractions for you. It also has a button that switches the result between a simplified fraction to a decimal. Very convenient. Has many great features for such a great price. I highly recommend it!

probably all scientific calculators are confusing at the beginning but an inbuilt help would have really helped.

It has all the answers

As far as I can tell, it's always right (as long as I input the correct values). Solar power is better than using batteries.

A calculator with improved display

TechStudent October 23, 2008

Casio fx 300ES is a pretty simple scientific calculator. I have used couple of casio calculators before, so I feel its almost like the regular scientific casio calculators. The pros of the calculator is the natural display. So you can write the expressions as it is in the display. It makes working with this calculator much convenient. The things that could have made it an excellent one for me is the CONST/CONV feature like the other casio calculators I have used. It also doesnt have the way to write the shortcut notation k, M,... in the keypad. To summarize its not a bad one and there is not hing to go ecstatic. I think the price is a bit high for the thing you get. So its a good idea to look for a cheaper alternative.
