if you don't want other cats or wild animals in your house, it works perfectly with a chipped cat!!

Great product, highly recommend for garage cat

Erica August 26, 2020

We installed this in our garage door for our outdoor cat. We wanted to give her a nice setup in the garage without raccoons coming in. It works very well and I am extremely pleased with the product. My cat had never used a cat door before and she was using this one without assistance after two weeks. We didn't even have to use the training mode.

Works perfectly

apabbott December 25, 2020

Wonderful solution for our multiple cat family. My daughter has this on her bedroom door to allow her cat exclusive access to her room while keeping my two clumsy cats out. Also keeps her cat from waking her all hours of the night wanting in and out. It took about 5 days for her cat to learn the door, especially since she has to go head first and wait for the door to unlock. But after a little learning period she has no problems and the door works perfectly.

Great door

Michelle Joslyn January 17, 2021

We bought this to let allow our rescues to come into our screened porch when they wanted a break from outdoors. Didn't take too long for them to catch on to go through the door. We like the different settings, when they start coming in at dark we can set it to cats coming in but not back out. We have stray cats that come up to the door but have not been able to get in due to the microchip. Husband was able to install without too much work. We are very pleased with our purchase.

I was skeptical that the chip reader would work reliably.

rubly June 7, 2019

I have had several RFID cat doors over the years including models from "Cat Mate". Most were underpowered and failed to open unless the conditions were just right - the tag was in the correct orientation and height on the collar, the cat wasn't moving too quickly ( e.g being chased by a raccoon ), and the cat pawed at the door flap in just the right way and at just the right time. I realize that getting a signal from an RFID tag the size of a quarter over a 4-5" distance with low-cost electronics is not easy, and so I was pretty skeptical that this new model would ever be able to pick up a signal from the even smaller RFID chip implanted by a veterinarian under the skin of the cat. Since this model also supports the external disk-type tags I figured I would always have a backup if it didn't work. Turns out, in my case it worked with the implanted tag beautifully -- and so far reliably. The speed of detection is very quick and is less confusing to the cat, and the door seems to be quite solid. The only criticism I have is the setup/programming could be improved a bit. The light/click feedback is a bit awkward when trying to tell if it's ready to programmed, is programming, or has accepted the tag. An additional LED or sound would have been a better way to indicate programming states. That last point is probably why some reviewers couldn't get it to work, or thought their unit was broken. With the lower price and improved features this is the best cat door we have owned.

Must have for outdoor pets

Mcc July 22, 2021

I used this so my cat could get indoors, but not bring in the wildlife or neighboring pets. It works perfect, first try, right out of the box. Cat had no trouble adjusting, and it is easy for her to push open. I read a lot of complaints about the batteries dying fast, but I don't have that issue. I've had my door for over 6 months and am still on the first batteries. This is a must have for all future outdoor pets!

Decent but tricky at first

NOYB October 29, 2019

I was really excited about this product as I am very leery of using collars on my cat. The directions were not the clearest. It implied you program your cats chip before you install it by having your cat "slowly walk through" while holding the door? Anyway, we installed it first then I slowly forced my cat through... nothing. I taped the lock so she can go through anyway while contacting customer service and researching other doors. My cat got used to going in and out (the door swinging is very quite). I finally tried to program it then just called her through. It worked! So it works well, just the instructions are not very clear.

protect ingress only; works with microchip or collar rfid tag.

Francois Nguyen August 8, 2020

We also have the catmate Elite. The Elite allows to control cat going in OR out and even tells you if the cat is in or out. This one opens with the microchip or tag only when coming in. To lock going out, it's a mechanical lock on the door. so it may not work with raccons with their opposing thumb that will pull the door instead of pushing it and may get inside (the reason we got the catmate elite in the first place). The tunnel has the antenna and works well. cat can dash and be detected by the time they push the door, they are in the tunnel and trigger the door lock. with the elite, the cat has a harder time to trigger the opening mechanism.A good product if you know what it does.If the cat does not have a microchip, you can get tags on ebay for cheap in a pack of 10, much cheaper than the official catmate tag and works as well.

Microchip option never worked

E. Crosby May 17, 2021

The reason we bought this was for the microchip option. It never worked even though we additionally bought the extra tag that attaches to pop it cats collar. We ended up just setting it to the setting that allows the door to swing open and closed freely. So disappointed in our purchase. We could have just purchased a much cheaper optio

Buy a Pet Safe door instead of this garbage d

ethan h. March 5, 2019

What good could I say about this door??? NOTHING!! When installing, the screws provided were to short, didn't reach ask the way through door so I had to use different screws. When i was tightening the 2 halves together, 1 of the 4 plastic screw holes broke before the door was even tight/flush with the garage door I was installing into. When I finally got this thing installed, the micro chip function lasted not even 24 hours before it stopped working completely. I followed all steps of the troubleshooting guide, nothing fixed the problem. I traded this peice of s**t in for the Pet Safe door which was the complete opposite of this door.
