I'm not a baker until the last year or two but won't stray from C%26H dark brown sugar. The flavor is intense and makes my cookies have a wonderfully rich taste. The price is within a few cents of Walmart.
Is it hard? Yes. Are most of the negative reviews talking about how hard it is? Yes. Fun fact. Brown sugar is just white sugar with molasses. The more molasses you add the darker it will be, therefore the harder it will be. It's very easy to break apart with hour fingers. If you have a problem with that, buy some molasses and make your own brown sugar. I made cookies and had no problem with the hardened dark brown sugar. Long story short. Don't let the negative reviews deter you from buying this product. It's supposed to be hard, it's easy to break up with your hands, it's normal for dark brown sugar.
Not really dark brown sugar like you used to get. This is more like what regular brown sugar used to be like. But 5lbs of white sugar is only 4lbs these days so I guess it's just the normal falling quality of food products. I use it up.
This brown sugar is hard as a rock. Parts of It are so dry that I can't indent it with my finger. I just threw a previous bag I bought for the very same reason.
when picking out sugar it shouldnt be hard
Received with a hole in the package and brown sugar HARD.
C %26 H Dark Brown sugar used to have a very dark brown color with a rich, almost molasses-like, flavor. and was delicious in all my old recipes. The last time I ordered it, I thought the picker had sent the golden brown sugar because the color was so light. Unfortunately, C%26H has changed the brown sugar color and flavor. It is neither dark brown nor rich tasting and flavorful as it used to be. 50 years of cooking, and now they ruin my “go to” favorite brand and product.
The package was torn, the sugar was hard, do the tear was very old and they put it in the order anyway. Very poor service by the person filling the order. I know it is hard to find employees, but they should be trained not to include damaged items in pickup orders. This is not my first experience with this, but I feel that you need to know in order to correct the issue.
Maybe in special requests add make sure sugar is soft.
I have used this product for decades. It is not dark brown and hard when I had it delivered. I kept this package for 4 mos and it is rock hard. The new package is not a moisture barrier.
