I just installed this so I don't have anything about long term. But my gate opener is a Liftmaster, which is the same company as Chamberlain, and that thing is a tank! I replaced a Genie Model 3055 with this because the wireless signal on it has been trash since I bought it 5 years ago. I would basically be already inside the garage before it detects a signal. I also wanted a backup battery. Once I installed the Chamberlain opener, I chunked that Genie in the trash. After installation, I was suprised by how quiet it is. Almost dangerous quiet. I'm going to speculate the dogs would not hear the door opening. My only con to this is that it doesn't come with a keypad. Strange that it's not included. The install took me about 8 hours. It's 100 degrees outside here in Houston and it's even hotter inside a closed garage. So I would work on it and go back inside to cool off in the A/C.
Excellent guided instructions. Was able to install entirely by myself with the help of an extension ladder and secured saw horses for resting and positioning the garage door opener. My one recommendation would be to allow for selecting and zooming in on individual parts from the parts list at each step to more admit differentiate between bolts, screws, and nuts.
The instructions for the steps to fish the belt through the rail need revision. I found that to fish the belt through the rail segments could not be assembled first. The rail segments needed to be lined up on the floor and the belt run through by hand and then assembled the segments. This is due to the crimped ends of each segment requiring the smaller metal end of the belt to be fed through while segments are disconnected because the end is very close to fitting through. It was impossible to fish the belt through while the segments were connected.
Very thorough for installation. It could use a troubleshooting link for specific steps. For example, I plugged the backup battery in and it flashed red. Then i had it all done and I went to hit the opener button and nothing happened and it was not lit up anymore. Third, when I close the door with the remote, an alarm goes off and I have no idea why. Creating a link to a specific troubleshooting measure for specific steps would help greatly. Especially a link to diagnostic codes. The opener itself is quite nice. It is much quieter than a chain drive. Having multiple ways to open and close the garage door is handy. Wall mount, remote, phone, and programmed into the vehicles opener. It was all ease to set up and use.
It took 2 of us 8 hours. We are intelligent people and can read directions. I would advise to measure your existing bracket as ours was not quite long enough to reach the new opener. Some things in the directions were not as clear as they could have been. This is already a thousand times better than the Genie it replaced. The ability to use the app to open and close is TOP NOTCH!
while the bilt app is good, it still sucks. your finger controls are shoddy at best. everytime i tried to move the screen around to get a better view of what i needed to do it got lost and took me forever to re-establish where i was so i couls try again. please, please, please make paper manuals an option, even if we have to download it abd print it ourselves. outside of the bilt app, your product is great! i have 2 openers in my garage in my MN home and just installed this one in my AZ home.
1) the BILT instructions have the red and white wires reversed going to the wall unit. 2) in tge instruxtions for starting programming, it is crucial that BILT and the instruction manual add, "before beginning, check to make sure the carriage and trolley are locked together and the manual release is in the "lock" position (pointing to the head unit). The garage door will be up most of the way. (2) When programming the UP arrow travel limit for the first time, the door already is very nearly open; the travel time will be short, maybe 1 second, to set the open travel limit. Be prepared to stop the UP travel quickly after pressing the UP button. If not, you risk locking up the motor and belt.
Set up was more difficult than I imagined, but I get through with a little perseverance and extra coffee breaks. The app is not easy to read on a small smart phone. A tablet would've been easier. It's quiet and now connected to the internet. One remote works and the other doesn't, but I'll push through. Happy so far.
The directions are very user friendly, easy to follow and for the most part put you at ease with the ability to complete the task. I had a few set backs since this application was for an older home that didn't have garage beams throughout to provide the ability to adjust the support for the new Chamberlain motor. Since I was replacing an older Chamberlain unit Model 5389 with B6713T I figured it would cut my install time significantly. So I went step by step and some steps I felt slowed down the process but I wanted to see how good a digital installation manual would compare to a paper manual. I would bet with a paper manual personally could have cut an hour or more now that I have this experience off this install. I say this with strong assurance because normally I would look a couple pages ahead after every step so that I can determine if there is a more efficient way to do the steps and avoid problematic situations that are one offs due to circumstances of the actual job site, like this example. The step of securing the front rail with the locking pin first would have benefited me tremendously since I had secured the motor to the existing support bracket as per the instructions had called for. Only to find later that the motor needed to move further back about 8” due to the newer belt system being longer than the screw drive older rail system. There was no way to adjust the support bracket so I had to stop my project and head out to the Home Depot to get a 2'x4' to create a new beam to attach the support which was needed for the new model Chamberlain unit. This step was necessary for my situation, but the order of removal the black bolts and reinstall them as the directions indicated prior to securing the front of the rail which is how I needed to do this install. Later in the directions it had me do the steps in the order I needed to complete this part of the project, which is why I'm writing this review. If this was the in order of steps, it would not have made me redo the securing the motor when it wasn't going to work in this situation in the first place. I would have had to go and get the 2'x4' either way, but I would not have to have had the redundancy of securing and redoing the installation on the wrong support beam.
The opener is just fine - quiet, smooth operation comparing to my old opener. The integrated light is an upgrade too. But I wish I could integrate the opener's camera with my existing NVR setup. Please consider exposing the camera stream via ONVIF protocol - without it the camera is useless to me.
