Champion Model 201176 Tri-Fuel, Inverter Generator

Francis S July 21, 2025

My search for a new generator led me to the Champion 201176 Open Frame Inverter, and as a first-time Champion owner, I can confidently say it was the right choice. This model stood out among its competitors for its fair price relative to its power output and the useful combination of 120V, 240V, and 12VDC outlets. Unboxing and setup were straightforward. During an initial hour-long test with space heaters, the generator handled a 2400-watt load without a hitch, maintaining a consistent 120VAC, 60Hz output—verified by my Kill-A-Watt meter. Champion's support team proved to be exceptionally responsive. When I needed assistance converting the generator to a floating neutral, they promptly provided a helpful video link, making the process clear. I'm fully prepared for an upcoming whole-house power test.

Worked great in an emergency

Shawn L August 21, 2025

It's incredibly easy to set up for first time use and after a power outage from a storm in our neighborhood, we could run our entire home. I started with propane and went to gasoline, having multiple fuel options is really nice.

9000 watt tri-fuel generator

Love the generator so far. Compact for its output, pretty quiet too! The tri-fuel option is outstanding and so easy with propane. Still on break in period. Well thought out generator!

My new best friend

Joe Alpena Michigan August 1, 2025

This is a very smart purchase. I couldn't believe that it started with the first pull of the cord. I just wanted to see how hard it would be to start that way and it fired right up. I'm currently "breaking" it in till I get 5 or so hours on it so I can change the oil. Everything I have plugged in has run just fine. It is not very loud but louder than I thought was described but for me that is not a problem it is a keeper!

So Far So Good

Anonymous October 5, 2025

I've had my Champion tri-fuel generator for a little less than a month, but so far it has met all of my expectations. I wanted a generator that would operate on natural gas and this unit does that flawlessly. I also wanted an inverter model that would provide clean power to protect sensitive electronics. I have had no power outages that required long-term use, but I am confident it will meet my needs when the time arrives. From the pics attached you can see I have mine in an enclosure which I realize is a no-no from manufacturers, but the reality is most generator owners do this. As long as it's installed safely with adequate ventilation and exhaust, it's a great way to protect the unit and reduce noise. Champion products are highly rated, which is one of the biggest reasons I switched manufacturers from my last gas model generator. Time will tell, but I'm confident I have made a wise purchase.

9000w tri fuel inverter

Nicol November 6, 2025

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Setting up the inverter/generator was straightforward. We did the break in using both propane for about an hour, the natural gas for the remaining 4 hours. The only awkward thing was filling the oil as the opening is tucked in. Moving it is easy with the built in wheels. And, it isn't too loud. Once we install an RV plug linked to our fuse box, it will be as easy as hooking the hose to the gasline and turning it on.

9000w Inverter for Home Use

Bob H May 6, 2025

I purchased this inverter generator to run on natural gas. It works well for it's intended purpose, allowing me to run my 240v needs along with the other 120v appliances using an interlock on my electrical panel. It runs my central air using a soft start as well as my deep well pump, hot water heater, and electric dryer (but not all at once). I do wish it arrived with a magnetic dipstick. I did swap out the provided spark plug with an NGK. One thing that I wish I had known is that you will need a regulator to bring the natural gas pressure down to 5-7” WC if it is not already at that pressure. I've been very happy with it thus far.

Trouble Free Generators

Terry J W May 5, 2025

This is my third Champion generator, all have been reliable trouble free generators. One for my house, one for my Mom's house and the third for the trailer. Power outages are not a worry anymore. The natural gas option makes storing of multiple Jerry cans of gas unnecessary. Recommended for anyone.

Start up

GARY PUDLEINER July 23, 2025

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I just purchased this Tri Fuel Invertor Generator. The assembly was very easy and quick. As I am getting older, I wanted to replace an old generator. I wanted one that started with a push button and connected to natural gas. This made my backup electric for my house a very simple operation when needed. I am looking forward to being able to use it in the future.

Champion 9000 tri fuel

Davi June 4, 2025

Champion 9000 generator Unpacking the generator and some assembly was a breeze instructions were clear and easy to understand. I am using Generlink to use for switch and running it on natural gas. I haven't finished my 5 hour break in period yet , but generator push button started working first try, I ran generator for about a little over 1 hour. The generator did shut off once and I am not sure why , I was running a very light load. First time I have had a generator and I ran it sitting on my lawn didn't expect that the exhaust would be low enough to bother grass but it killed a 2 foot area of grass. When I continue with breakin I will make sure I protect grass from exhaustChampion 9000 generator Unpacking the generator and some assembly was a breeze instructions were clear and easy to understand.
