Because it is electric it takes a while to reach higher desired heat levels versus LP gas. Nevertheless, this is really a heavy duty piece of cooking equipment. We already have both LP gas (Weber) and park-style charcoal grills, but also wanted a grill that could slow cook foods for hours with minimal oversight or attention to maintaining an even temperature...the digital thermostat is great...!!!
I was hesitant to buy initially. I have only had this grill for a few weeks, and I've cooked on it just once (two slabs of baby back ribs). They turned out beautifully when I used low and slow temperatures! I would say this grill met my expectations. It looks fantastic on my patio, has plenty of cooking space, and was fairly easy to assemble. No more lugging bags of charcoal or hauling fuel tanks. I love that this grill allows you to better control your temperatures. If you want to add smoke, try a smoke box or wood pellet burn-tube with this grill. So far, it looks like a winner!
Our condo association insurance policy eliminated gas grills so I bought this as a replacement. My first test grill of filet mignon was slightly disappointing as the suggested temperature of 500 degrees for medium rare was way too low. Next time I'll do 650…otherwise the grill was easy to assemble, cord length adequate, well made and price was right. I'm very happy with it so far.
It is so awesome. Have had it for a month now. Heats up pretty quickly . Stays at a steady temp and is super easy to clean. Bought a normal grill cover for it and it fits perfectly. Love it
Looks great and works great. I was tired of getting propane with other bbq. Heating takes a little time, but not too much more than propane and controlling heat more precisely is great. It's perfect size and looks great.
I like the grill alot. Very well made. It takes 30 /- mjnutes to heat up to 500 (I use it with a Lodge cast iron grill plate, so it may take me longer). When using the grill the temp will drop 25 degrees, So if you're doing multiple batches you need to consider the extra amout of time needed.
On Char Broil"s website they say it heats to 500 degrees in less than 15 minutes. When I turned mine on for the first time it took 33 minutes. Not happy with that.
The major problem with the grill is that the temperature control gives an inaccurate reading. A calibrated oven thermometer read 450 degrees when the temperature was set for 350 degrees after 1/2 hour of heating. The steaks and seafood that I cooked on the grill did turn out well.
heated up quickly and food cooked well. problem is after just 1 use the cooking area started peeling off, worried that some of it may have gotten into our food.
Our apartment issued a no propane rule and so we turned to this electric grill. The heating in this thing is so bad that it takes an obscene amount of time to heat up. We're talking an hour to reach 500 degrees and can't even surpass that temperature. This is in the summer mind you so forget about even using it in any cold season. The worst offense is this thing drops heat and continues to lose the heat after opening the lid……one time. Imagine how great that is to have a bbq that can't even sustain its own temperature without being able to check what you're grilling. This happened on two grills, one returned for another so it's not a fluke. Don't waste your money. You're better off using a cast iron inside.
