The new orange bag with hickory burns too hot for smoking. Great for steak but no good for smokers. Keep the old OAK formula and just add the new bag with the stars maybe change the bag color of the new formula. Otherwise I'll have to find another brand.
This was my go too for long slow cooks. All anyone stocks now is the new Hickory/oak blend and it doesn't burn half as long. Hopefully they bring this product back.
I've used this charcoal in my drum smoker for years now. It worked perfectly. Now, I can't find it anywhere. So, disappointed.
B&B Oak Briquets are simply the best in the market. Whether Hot n Fast or Low n Slow these briquets deliver excellent results. We use them for home cooks and on the competition Steak and BBQ circuits. We have even used them with great success in our pizza oven. Whether for Hot n Fast or Low n Slow cooks B&B Oak Briquets simply cannot be beat!
This product constantly exceeds all expectations. Once you experience the flavor of the magical Briquettes in the orange bag - you'll see and know the difference. This is the cleanest burning briquettes as well… my charcoal chimney gives a thin blue smoke constantly with this product. You will not get a better flavorful briquette on the market!
These extra large oak briquettes are almost twice the size of most other brands of charcoal briquettes without all of the filler/binder which in turn equates to less ash and a much longer lasting, cleaner and hotter burning charcoal. Fast lightning and even burning plus the recessed B in each briquette is there to increase the surface area which leads directly to a better burning briquette. Buy a bag and thank me later!
I've been using these for a couple of years and really like them. I was using Kingsford but didn't like the chemicals (like Borax) that they use as a binder. I feel B&B are healthier. I like that these briquettes "spark" a bit like lump charcoal when you light them and the smell is totally different than the old blue bag. Also particularly on shorter cooks I use less coals and there is plenty leftover for the next cook. Fortunately my local Ace keeps these in stock.
I use the Oak Briquets for everything from a hot and fast cook on my grill to a slow cook on my barrel smoker. I once cooked a couple of chickens on my barrel smoker (about 3 hours), shut off most of the airflow to the smoker. 6 hours later I opened all the vents and cooked 2 steaks with the same charcoal! (My grill grates were running about 550 after everything came back up to speed!) This product is simply amazing! From the time you fire up the charcoal chimney and see very little smoke as it catches (Clean burn), to the flavor that it gives my food when I am using it, nothing is better. It is hands down the highest quality, best tasting, cleanest burning charcoal on the planet! All my friends family and neighbors who cook outdoors, now use B&B Charcoal. It just can't be beat! Now go get you some!! You won't be disappointed!
We have tried other brands from time to time, based on recommendations from others. But this is always the brand, and the briquet we come back to. The consistency is KEY. We trust when we open the bag that the briquets quality will be the same as the quality we first had years ago - and we've never been let down. Very little breakage of the briquets, very little dust, and always quick to light and keep burning for hours on end. When you compete, you can't leave things to change and need to be able to rely on consistency - this does it.
I bought a small bag to try out comparing it to my regular charcoal. The briquets take longer to lite and reach smokeless burn stage. They do provide nice oak flavor and burn much longer, but the heat is lower than equal amount of my regular charcoal. I plan to try another long burn with additional briquets to see if I can maintain 250 average for a ten hour run in my kettle. Flavor is nice, but not sure I would recommend for every day grilling due to slow start and lower heat output per volume of charcoal.
