Our 9th annual Gingerbread House decorating party for our grandchildren (7) and great-nieces and nephews (2 ea.) aged 18 to 4 years old. Everyone loved their house and did a great job decorating. The past 8 years I bought the kits and put them together in advance. When I saw the pre-built kit, I knew I had to have them! It worked out so well and saved me so much time that I definitely will purchase them again for next year's party!!!
We get pre built gingerbread houses for our grandchildren every year. They are so much better than the ones you have to glue together. It has become a family tradition and even our 15 year old enjoys decorating them. Great holiday activity to do with our grandchildren.
So much more enjoyable to decorate a prebuilt house rather than spend all the time trying to hold it together. My family had a lot of fun competing with one another for best house! The candies and icing provided were tasty as well.
It appears the pre-made item was damaged. I believe greater care should have been taken in securing the packaging and assembling the gingerbread house. The seams should have had significantly more icing to ensure its stability, which was not the case. There was only a small amount of icing in each section, rather than enough to securely hold everything together. The item was placed in a box with a piece of cardboard around it and wrapped in plastic. Consequently, during transit, it was inevitably jostled, bumped, and dropped. While the concept is excellent, the execution is unfortunately poor.
It's a family tradition to kick off our holiday season by building gingerbread houses after Thanksgiving dinner. We've done this every year for 20 literally 20 years now. We always get these houses because they're pre-built, sturdy, and come with plenty of icing and candy for decorating. I don't know what happened to them this year, but they are *awful*! The houses themselves are very poorly put together- walls are crooked/tilted in, the icing that "glues" them together is very crumbly and is coming off in chunks, they aren't attached to the cardboard "foundation" well (or at all in a couple of them) despite the cardboard being *covered* in icing and what's either dried icing that's been powdered during shipping or just plain old sugar. The icing that's used to "glue" the decorations on, becomes the "snow", etc. is terrible. It's far too runny and slowly melts off of the roof/sides- taking the candy decorations with it, and at the same time is so dry that it doesn't spread well. This is the first year this brand has disappointed us, but boy did they!
The icing that comes with it is terrible! No matter how much or how little we used to stick the candy on it took forever to dry enough to actually hold the candy in place. I held the whole house on its side for 5 minutes to get two clusters of candy to harden, one with a little dab of frosting and one with a glob of frosting, neither hardened enough to hold the candy in 5 minutes. I tried to make icicles and after about 2 minutes they all started stretching and falling off. The icing is more of a thick glaze consistency than royal icing consistency and it reflects that as it dries, the color is not white it's a clear/white. If you are going to get this buy better or make your own. My son had fun but I would not purchase again.
I was happy to receive the gingerbread houses in a time fashion. However, all 3 items had been sent past their expiration date of July, 2025. Consequently the kids were not able to eat them.
I bought two of these pre-built gingerbreads for our annual house decorating tradition. I got the houses out of the boxes. When my granddaughters started to decorate them, they both fell apart. And they are not young children. They are 13 and 17. They made a quick run to the Walmart competitive store in our area and bought two more. They turned out really nice. I definitely won't buy that brand again. Total waste of my money for the ones from Walmart.
This is the worst gingerbread house kit I have ever seen, there was way less candy than the package indicated from the picture on the box. The icing is not only gross but doesn't work it just melts and falls off the house. We gave up after 5 minutes because it looked awful and wasn't fun. Would never buy again. Terrible!
It was delivered by Walmart at our front door in a bag, not a box. All 4 of the pre-built gingerbread kits were in poor shape %26 this one was completely apart. We had to use caulk to put it back together so our granddaughter could decorate it.
