This roast consistently has a decent flavor. Beef today is fed a little differently than it used to be, so there is less intense flavor, but this is good enough. Sometimes, it comes in a little fatty, but that's to be expected with this cut, and it's fairly easy to remove much of it with a fat separator and a knife and fork. If you want less fat, don't order chuck - get a leaner cut, but be prepared to spend more for it and be less pleased with the taste and texture. That fat marbling is what makes it more tender and provides a lot of flavor. Leaner is tougher and less tasty. But, your choice. Cook it low and slow(think: slow cooker or oven on 350° or even 325°) - with some liquid to help keep it moist - and you'll have a great meal that is tender, with a moist consistency and with convenience in the kitchen.
Absolutely the best cut of Roast. Baked it from frozen on 425 for 3 hours took it out of the oven and added, potatoes, carrots, onions and celery. Baked for another 1 as 1/2 hours. It was delicious. 2 cans of Beef Broth, 3 cups of water, salt, pepper and onion powder and my family loved it.
Beautiful chuck roasts! I ordered 2 of these chuck roasts this time. I have ordered them in the past and I have never been disappointed! they always look beautiful and have a nice marbling (which you want a little bit of in order to make a delicious pot roast). I've never been disappointed with this purchase of these. Walmart always comes through for me with quality. We have pot roast twice a month (because I'm the household cook and I LOVE it! These are quality you can count on!
I’ve bought this brand/size roast at least 10 times now. EVERY time I cook one of these, it’s the most delicious roast anyone says they have ever had. It falls apart and there’s so much marbling that the fat renders down perfectly. I won’t buy roast from anywhere else.
It's expensive like everything these days and not something I can afford to order often but it was a good splurge for a special occasion. Quality of meat was good, not too much fat. Always nervous when I purchase meat online and don't choose myself in store but it worked out well.
Cut Roast into 1" cubes; Sear in Olive Oil and Butter until brown Cut potatoes into 1" cubes Dice 1 White Onion, tomatoes, Carrots and Celery Put into Slow Cooker; Add veggies and sliced mushrooms Generously salt and pepper Deglaze pot with red wine. Pour it all into Slow Cooker Add 1 box of Beef Broth Add splashes of Worcestershire Sauce Add splashes of more Red Wine Add a couple of Bay Leaves Slow cook for 8 hours Serve with a crusty bread. All bought at Walmart (made my own bread). This Roast turns out flavorful, and fork-shred tender. My next meal with another Walmart Chuck Roast is Mississippi Pot Roast. I can hardly wait.
Tasted fine. Was tender. BUT there's no way this isnt pumped full of extra liquid.... 7 lbs for roughly 40 dollars and after slow cooking it resulted in 2.5 lbs of meat. NO WAY. Been cooking and baking professionally for over thirty years and have NEVER had meat lose so much weight due to liquid separation. Generally, AFTER cooking i end up with just over half the starting weight. being left with roughly one third the starting weight is ridiculous. 16 or so dollars per lb after cooked???? UNHEARD OF!
First of all, I spent 12 years as a sous chef, so I know good meat from bad. This was the worst cut of meat I've ever seen. It started at 1.8 lbs but there was a huge vein of fat through it. Not the kind of fat that will render out, more like gristle. After trimming out the unuseable bits it weight just slightly over 1 lb meaning this actually cost just under $16/lb. That is atrocious. The meat itself tasted good and was fresh but there is way, WAY too much waste. It's worth going to a real butcher, and while you may pay more per pound you'll have more useable meat.
I used my instant pot to cook this roast, my tried and true method for cooking a chuck roast. They always turn out very tender. This is the the first chuck roast I have purchased from Walmart. When I took it out of the package, it gave me pause because it felt extremely stiff, which I finally attributed to the fat cap which was rather thick. But the roast almost looked plastic because the meat was hard, and too perfect looking with no marbling, unusual for a chuck roast. Unfortunately, that toughness lasted throughout the cooking process. It was the worst piece of meat I’ve ever purchased. Even the flavor wasn’t normal.
Even after several hours in the crockpot this was not great. Tough which surprised me but I have seen that a lot from the meats lately. I am far from being a tree hugger but if the meat keeps being this poor quality I think I might just have to only eat fish.
