I have used this bassinet from day one of coming home from the hospital and we are going on four months now. It doesn't have a deeper base so it could go both ways with using it bedside. I have a very high bed so it worked well but I could see it being a strain if you had a lower to the ground bed. There are different settings you can easily make it lower and it does have a very slight “rocking” form to the base where you can move it back and forth-again, this is slight. The basket underneath is super handy for anything you need close by, especially postpartum when it hurts to get in and out of bed.
