Nothing New Under The Sun

EsQue 10 099 January 12, 2024

In 1970 I walked into CC Lumber in Corpus Christi, Texas and lay down my dollars for my first Stanly 10-099 utility blade, just like my Dad's. The old original has seen me through 40+ years of drywall, framing and carpentry. Looks old, feels good in the hand. As long as I feed it Stanley replacement blades and clean it up from time-to-time it works (and has never drawn blood). Cannot say more for a useful tool than that.

Good utility knife

ComputerNrd99 January 20, 2017

The utility knife features interlocking above and below the blade so the blade never comes through the handle when used ruggedly. It uses Stanley blades which have the 2 notches cut out on top. Easy to switch blades with flat-head or Phillips screwdriver.

I'm a fridge delivery guy and this knife cuts through the thick packaging box like butter. Made my work fast and easier. It is safe and build to last.

STANLEY® 99E Classic Retractable Blade Utility

Timberwolf07 June 7, 2026

bought as a replacement and have had zero problems with it and carried in a back pocket was purchased 16 years ago. In that time, it has been used to cut all on the list of things listed and then some. Fast blade changing and the fact it can store up to 5 blades makes it very handy if need to change current blade in use.

99E after 60years

99e knife July 2, 2026

I had my Stanley for 60 years of hard use and it still works perfectly. I have added a couple more over the last 5-10 years and they are identical my first one, and work just as well. My thanks to Stanley for not compromising on a simple but invaluable tool, as is so often the case these days. As a note, Someone told me 60 years ago that the 99E would not hold up. I also have a fixed blade (99?) but it requires a holster, and I have only used it for cutting tarpaper for roofing and siding underpayment, usually with a hooked blade. Indispensable too but my 99E is my "go-to" utility knife. Blades are easy to get in bulk.

Stanley 99E classic knives are a must have

Stanley 99E June 3, 2026

I have owned this knife and find it to be durable and easy to change blades. Besides just cutting into boxes and using the blade as a scraper It has been helpful when doing roof shingles. Blades easily interchange and hold an edge

Great "Stanley" item - delivery was on time !!! Had a little hard time opening the item to use . Not sure of their assembly, but, I had to take it a store with tools to open. They had a hard time too.... but, it was opened and item is fine

Great alternative to the others

Smilin Brian November 23, 2024

This is the most comfortable utility knife on the market because it doesn't have a rubber handle. I have found that this smooth finish makes me more productive. I don't have time to worry about someone's definition of comfort. Also, if you want a thin utility knife, then you have to sacrifice blade storage. This utility knife holds up to 11 razor blades inside of the handle and one in front, for a total of 12 razor blades. If you want a belt or pocket clip, then you have to sacrifice comfort because it is not comfortable having a clip dig into the palm of my hand. The best feature is the 5 exposed blade positions. Most retractable utility knives on the market only have up to 3 blade positions, some have only 1. You usually have to read the fine print (in a tiny font size on the back of the package to discover the truth). I have found that many retractable utility knives will jam because the quick-change mechanism does not stay aligned properly (you won't have that problem ever with this model). The only thing that can be improved would be having ridges along the top and bottom of the handle to prevent slippage when your hand is hot and sweaty.
