I was not sure of the larger size when I first ordered one. I find it very convenient as opposed to the smaller pads. It lays under my keyboard and covers much of the desktop. I ordered this one after I wore out the first one I bought many months ago. Because the edges are so close to the front of the desk, the front edges tended to wear more quickly as I dragged my hands across them. I often have extra things on my desktop, which might interfere with using the smaller mouse. This one gives me more space to use. My organization skills are not the best. As each individual may need more space for their own skills and likes they will either like or hate this product. Nevertheless the cost to try is doesn't seem to be prohibitive!

The mat is large. My keyboard is on it, and I have lots of area for my mouse. The edges are sewn, which stops rolling and separation. And, it is pretty!

The mouse pad covers the entire area in front of my desktop computer, including under the keyboard. The mouse is never on the edge of/off of the mouse pad! It's very convenient. I got the last one dirty, and put it in the dishwasher to see if that would clean it. It didn't, but the pad still worked fine for a couple of years. It was just ugly.
