Out-competing in the oil patch...

Anonymous November 28, 2020

After putting these safety glasses through their paces, I can only recommend. I am the pump operator for a major oilfield services company, pumping cement for zone isolation. Essentially, I'm mixing dry cement with additives and water to make a weighted slurry and then pumping it downhole at up to 10k psi and 10 bbl/min. To say it's dirty is usually a gross understatement. Besides various chemicals that can ruin your day, the cement dust is extremely abrasive. I am usually getting one job per pair of 3M safety glasses, with two jobs per pair really stretching it. My tolerance for safety glasses is extremely low to begin with (I do not require vision correction and the slightest distortion in plastic lenses remind me of being drunk), and a lot of manufacturers lose my vote before even making it onto a well site. If they do, any noticeable scratches or blemishes severely limits their useful life. With the SPG400,I had no issue with optical clarity or distortion. Passing the first test, they were headed to the well pad and rig. I have been wearing these safety glasses daily for the past four weeks with very little lens scratching. Honestly, I can't tell that they have any scratches while they are on my face. They are only noticeable when I'm specifically looking for them while holding my glasses in front of me, and with the lighting being off-angle. That is roughly 30x longer than I'm getting out of the 3M's, but the SPG's aren't even close to needing attention. When they eventually do, the SPG400 feature replaceable lenses. Given the clarity and life I'm getting, I'll happily spend for the lenses. The frame seems to be durable, although slightly wider at the temples than I'm used to. If you usually wear sunglasses with a wide temple, you won't even notice. The width is there for the battery, usb charging port, on/off switch, and led light. I can't speak to the battery life other than to say I haven't run out of light yet. Seeing as most of our cementing jobs tend to call out in the middle of the night, the light was one of the features that attracted me most to the SPG400. I have gotten at least an hour of intermittent use from the SPG light with no discernible dimming. Water resistance also seems to be better than average, although I'm don't think these are manufacturer rated. Cleaning cement after the job requires water... a lot of it, and I'm usually soaked before the job is over. If splashing was going to kill these things, it would have already done so. In conclusion, I'm extremely pleased with the SPG400's. The performance was significantly better than what I expected, based on prior performance with other brands. The inclusion of a rechargeable led light, in an unobtrusive manner, was a pleasant inclusion. The lenses are where these things really shine, and is what impressed me the most. The fact that you can replace them as needed is just icing on the cake. It's another Coast product that has earned it's place in my kit for value, warranty, and that they punch way above their belt competing with other, top of the market, recognizable brands.

Awesome little safety glasses

Colin C March 30, 2022

I really do love these little safety glasses there very comfortable, tight fit around the eyes and don't fall off from extreme movement and have a bright light on it. It also has a excellent battery life as well I have yet been able to run out of power while using them if you charge after each use.

Great safety aid

Bing June 23, 2022

I seem to always need a light to get some project done. Can't do it without a light. But it is easy to get in a hurry and not grab the safety glasses. This is a really great safety solution. The glasses are nicely made and the light makes the work much easier and safer, too.

Perfect Glasses

Anonymous November 22, 2020

The first thing I noticed was how light weight they are for having a battery in them . The lenses are really clear and the inspection beam is extremely bright and travels a good distance . Comes with a nice soft case to keep them from getting scratched when not in use . The tips of the arms of the frames that go over your ears are made of a soft material and help with fatigue from long hours of use. Only con I have found about them is they're not very tight fitting .

Great glasses for Mechanic

Linc February 14, 2021

Great safety glasses with light. Working underneath a car, they are awesome. But, working under the hood they tend to slide off, wish they came with a secure type strap.

A must have

James Spano April 13, 2021

Their very good very well-made reason why I only gave it a 4 star is because there's no padding around the eyes so debris can still get in and if it a little loose

Great concept but limited in some situations

Night Slayer November 16, 2020

The light produced is very even and of the perfect intensity for most ordinary work. However, the arms of the glasses are very flexible, and due to this and the weight of the batteries, the glasses frequently fall off when looking downward. This causes them to be less useful in situations that involve looking down.

Great glasses but....

Moradth June 28, 2021

I really like these glasses. They are clear, the light is angled more to the right and it holds a long charge. My only gripe is that the ear grabs are flimsy, which means they start to slide off when looking down. A stronger wire insert or ear hooks would've remedied this. So I do use them, but only in situations where I'm looking up or straight ahead.

Light spot is too narrow

Bill September 25, 2021

The light spot on this is far too narrow I expected a much wider more even field of lighting for a general safety glasses work light. I was hoping for something light a fully zoomed out HL7 but it's way too pin spotty. So if you're doing something close up like working on a drill press or a fastener just barely a foot away from your face on her car away from your face while you're under a car, or even rewiring an electrical panel, there is an okay general field of light but there is an intense spot of light just off to the right of really where you want to be. I would not recommend and will be returning mine it was just too bad because I was excited about them and their interchangeable lenses. The glasses themselves are nice, comfortable and provide a nice field of view.

Useless Under A Car

SWAMPFOX January 21, 2024

Light beam is too high for close-up work, especially since I ordered the extra bi-focal lenses. I am going to try and attach a Plano Concave lens with its flat side next to the SPG400 led light lens. Hopefully this will spread the light beam so the close-up work with the bi-focal lens will be possible.
