Coghlan's 9480 Emergency Preparedness Kit, 24 Count

Got it for BOB as a basic start and adding things that I want in the bag, has all the basics you need.

The Coghlan's Survival Kit is a decent addition to a day-trip bag. It contains most of the things which would make an emergency situations survivable. It is compact enough to fill the corner of a backpack, while light enough to add good value for the weight. The survival guide is good for beginners, with simple language, and good advice. However, it is not detailed enough to help somebody who is completely lost navigate their way to safety. My only complaints are the lack of water purification. The water-proof pouch is plastic, and so, cannot be boiled. and there are no water purification tablets included. I was also a little disappointed that the only cutting tool was a pair of razorblades.

Has about 16 different items, some are repeats such as antiseptic wipes etc. So KIT has more than 16 items. Two cheaply made items are the Compass and Whistle. I have bought the individual Coghlans compass and whistle which are a different quality than in the KIT and those are good to go. The separate individual Compass and Whistle from Coghlans I bought work and will withstand a Camping or Emergency situation. The KIT compass and Whistle are sure to break easily, other than that , the other survival items are okay. Not top of the line but if I was in a bad natural setting, I would welcome EVERYTHING in the KIT. These are good and steady for a BoB also to place in your car trunk or boat for an emergency in cold weather. It's got a little bit of what you might need, fish hooks, weights, line, razor blades, ...read the list on the description from Walmart. The price is superb, the quality (except for compass and whistle) is decent and will suffice for a little while .please believe me, you could not buy these items for less than 18.00 except in a survival kit.

It's an ok kit , Nothing special . You got ways to make Fire and treat smalls wounds .. via small cuts and a light source from the candle . Would've been nice to include aluminum Foil to boil water or water purification Tabs . The kit will do though, you can't drop someone out in the wild with this kit and say good luck to ya . You'll need more than just this . Add it to a Bob (Bug Out bag) or a camping bag with more gear .
