The beginning of good oral hygiene.

BigO58 August 8, 2020

I grew up on Colgate when the tubes were made of metal. I raised my kids on Colgate too and, in their 40's they hold fast to it. Colgate Total in my opinion is how we make what is good, better. My daughter to this date has never had cavities, and she's 43. Of course, having caps on her molars since childhood helps tremendously but, the first line of defense was Colgate and good oral hygiene since she was a little girl. Also, unlike Crest and all other toothpastes and gels, Colgate protects against bad breath. It really washes your mouth better than any other paste or mouthwash out there, although a good mouthwash does help too. Try it, you'll like it.

I noticed there were comments on the taste of SF, Stannous Fluoride. Colgate dropped the triclosan because the FDA discovered triclosan caused undesirable effects on human health. And it was banned in 2016. I'm thinking the offer of SF was for the antibacterial properties of SF which the other 2 flourides do not offer. We purchase the Colgate Total SF because of the Stannous Floride content. Colgate offers other toothpastes without it. Our household hasn't had any ill effects or experienced bad taste and we will continue to use Colgate Total SF.

This toothpaste is a bit more expensive than some but worth every penny. Leaves the mouth fresh and clean, and of course great for the health of your teeth.

Toothpaste

My Dentist gave this to me when I had my teeth cleaned . I was hesitant to use it because I have sojourn disease and whitening and mint burn my mouth. I was surprised that this did not burn nor hurt my tongue or lips. So I have been using it . JS

Irritation to mucosa membrane and tissues

William September 13, 2020

Cleans well, has a subtle minty taste but it's not for long-term use for me. After a few days, it burns my gums and cheeks and if I run my finger along my cheek, a whole layer of skin comes off. And it made my frenulum (the thin piece of tissue underneath the tongue holding it to the bottom of the mouth) becoming white and form a blister. Clearly it's irritating for me and probably is not good for people with sensitivities to whitening agents in their toothpaste (which this does) or maybe it's the *new ingredient sodium lauryl sulfate* causing the irritation. Returning back to using regular Colgate (with just good old sodium fluoride) with no fancy bells and whistles got rid of the issue.
