I can't remove the plastic filter, which is not something I want to make contact with boiling water daily. The instructions say "grasp and lift up" to remove, but I've tried a variety of angles and strengths, and the thing does not budge. I'm scared I'm going to snap it off, leaving shards of plastic behind.

Unfortunately, without a protective metal collar around the neck, the glass pot is subject to breaking every time it is filled %26 each time when pouring. The electric base does not automatically shut off when the tea pot is removed %26 then returned empty to the base unit, which is unsafe.
