I have owned and used circular saws for over 35 years, to include Dewalt, Milwaukee, Porter Cable, Craftsman, Makita, virtually every major brand made. This saw is by far the best circular saw I have ever used. Once again, Ridgid has exceeded expectations and raised the bar. This unit cuts so very smooth, handles easily, and runs cool. Worm drive over direct is the option if you don't mind (or prefer) a right handed saw. The ONLY downside to this unit is the choice of oil in the gear case - it is very difficult to find, and is not on store shelves to purchase of you need it, so if oil needs to be added, good luck finding the product specified.
My 20+ Skill saw wore out and needed to be replaced. I always wanted a worm gear saw and was leaning toward the Skill, but the price was more than the Ridgid. So I bought my first Ridgid and am completely pleased with it. Cutting stair stringers for my deck is a breeze. Plenty of power, control, the sole plate glides over the material. Consistent cuts and results. If you need a new saw, you will not go wrong with the THRUCOOL 7-1/4 in. Worm Drive Saw.
I purchased this saw to make straight cuts through MDF, OSB and ply wood. This saw does most the work all I have to do is push. It's a great product.
I have several hypoid/worm drive saws... This Ridgid Saw is by far my favorite... it has a great balanced feel, plenty of power and quick and easy adjustments.
I picked up this saw because i moved into a house that needed a lot of work. It is an excellent saw, I had a Skill worm drive years ago but this saw is more ergonomic and I think more powerful.
I cannot true square the base to the blade. Oil for the worm drive comes in 5 and 55 gallon quantities. I cannot or unable to obtain the required oil from Ridgid. The Saw cuts well. My oil was low after a few uses.
It was time to replace my circular saw. So I thought I would invest in a better quality saw and got the Ridgid 7-1/4". Sadly, after just a couple uses, the bearing wobbles in the housing causing the blade to wobble unsafely. I will have to now take it to a service center.
I bought this less than a month ago and I'm so disappointed. I've ripped a total of 6 boards and it died half way through the 7th. Now all it does is make a terrible grinding/whining noise. I'm going to replace it and see if the new one lasts longer...
the blade is not 90 degrees with the plate, there is no way to adjust it
