I've used this saw a few times at my house to trim around an enclosed porch. Worked great on 2x4 and 2x2's. Used at my new home build for blocking. But due to lack of sliding capability, need to flip 2x6 and 2x8 boards in order to cut. Able to be done, but make sure to figure out your needs (and patience!). For my occassional use and it's price point, valuable tool!
From pine trim, to hardwood flooring. Tight accurate miters. I've got two homes one an a half hours apart, and I'm tooling up work shops in both. Price and quality can't be beat.
This is a great little miter saw. I bought this one because i didnt really need my commercial saw for my small dyi project. This saw is so much lighter than my other saw and the job im doing is on the 2nd floor and the stairway is fairly steep and narrow. Right out of the box it cut perfectly straight. I did replace the blade that came with it in order to get more of a good finish cut. Ive used it for framing cuts as well as trim. I would definitely recommend this saw for light dyi work.
This saw cuts wood like a laser with precision and fast, it has cut the time in building the shelving that my wife wants in the garage and her business. I love it! I really want more of this brand, like a drill, table saw, and the nail gun. You think I can get these as gifts?
I've used this saw on on several jobs now and it seems to work very well for a small saw. It's great for some of the smaller jobs that I do because it's so light and mobile. I haven't had the saw all that long but it seems to be built very well especially for the price.
I used the saw to cut crown molding. I molding was 6" wide. You keep the piece flat in the saw and angled for 34 degrees for every cut. You move the saw from left to right (approx.32 degrees), change the side you cut from and the mount ceiling side or wall side facing the "stop" depending on whether the cut is inside (left or right), or outside (left or right). There is an excellent video on Youtube that explains this. There were cuts that the saw could not fully make and had to be finished off by hand. This was Ok for me because I used plastic moulding which is easy to work with and any gaps at the corners when you put the molding up can be taken take of with spackle/caulk, sanded, and then painted over painted over. So for $100 extra for the saw I was able to put up beautiful crown molding. If you buy 6" wide crown moulding and want a saw that will cut all the way through, this is not for you and you'll have to upgrade to a more expensive saw.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Only used my saw once so far but seems to work fine for my projects. The dust bag is rather thin and some dust does get out. Might want to think of something different depending on where you're using it.
I moved from a home with a full detached 20x20 wood shop . Had to sell all of my tools as the condo I moved into has the small version of a 2 car garage. I needed this saw to at least recover the ability to perform small household chores. Luckily, I found this saw on sale for an even better buy. I've had several Hitachi tools in the past and have always been well pleased. This tool is no exception.
I bought it to do trim work in a new garage. Out of the box very easy to learn to use and suited my purpose. The set 45 is about 1 degree off but easy to fix. I also plan to use it for wood artwork and it will be perfect. I like the compactness since I did not need a mitre saw for heavy jobs.
I used this saw for almost 2 months. I liked it. It made nice tight miter cuts. Unfortunately, the fence broke (stress fracture, maybe), and parts weren't available, so I returned it and got another brand.
