The Cooler Kitchen oversize 1.3 gallon kitchen compost bin is a must have item if you are into making your own compost soil for your garden beds. The bin consists of a metal outside bucket with a plastic inside bucket and an easy light lift lid. Both buckets have a wire handle on them for easy carrying. The lid is breathable and has a replaceable charcoal filter in it to eliminate odors from coming out of the bucket. The metal bucket and metal lid are quality manufactured for fit and appearance with a superb smooth paint finish that dirt and grime wipes off of easily. Use this compost storage bin in the kitchen to put any biodegradable items into such as, food scraps, coffee grounds, tea leaves or bags and egg shells. Keep it in the kitchen until full and then transfer the materials to your outside compost pile or bin. Clean up is easy using warm soapy water. The plastic bucket is dishwasher safe. I even take this kitchen compost bin along on camping trips to use in my RV kitchen. It eliminates odors from forming in the RV and stops any biodegradable materials from ending up in an open waste basket.
Its not invincible to smell obviously, because nothing can cut the smell of decomposition... but this definitely does a good job at concealing your veggie scraps effectively and looks nice. I have marble countertops and the metal + marble sounds horrific when you slide it, but thats about my only complaint, and felt stickers go a long way. Lid is easy to lift, easy to clean bucket inside of the white bin, and it disguises the fact that we are storing food scraps on our counter very well. Great product, and I highly recommend it!
Way better than the green plastic container my apartment gave. This one does not stink at all even after a week of garbage in. I also noticed the way I use the bin has changed a bit because of the design, previously I used to have to open the lid on my previous bin multiple times as it used to close automatically. With this product I can put the lid aside while I am doing the cooking and throw in the garbage without having to open the lid everytime . I like the new workflow better .
I didn't know how to rate the scent category-- but there is 0 smell. I wanted to test if there would be a smell, and there's been an avocado sitting in there for over a week. 0 fruit flies, 0 smell. I'm pretty sensitive to smells, and I'm blown away by the quality of this item, and the lack of smell. I will use this for our composting worm food from now on.
We really like this bin. Is pretty sturdy, while being nice enough to have on our counter while we are cooking. I also like that has a removable bin where the bag goes into that comes out. That makes it extremely convenient to take out the food waste, since the compostable bags are usually pretty thin and tend to break if you touch them too much. It also makes it easier to keep the whole thing clean, since you mostly just need to rinse the inside bin to keep it from smelling. Overall we are pretty pleased with it.
We have been talking about getting a kitchen compost bin for over a year, but were concerned that the odors would be a problem, given that the tops simply go over the bottom. After the debate, we bough this item an can announce that this item sits on the counter-top next to the sink and there is no apparent odor, even after the container is full. This is a really good product.
Normaly we would drag the kitchen trash can to the dining table and put the peels, etc in the trash. Now we can put them in the kitchen compost bin and use the compost in our garden. The compost bin has a plastice container inside the outer metal bin that easily lifts out for dumping. It can be washed in the dishwasher. The metal lid has a compartment in the middle for the charcoal filter.
I like the pail within a pail design. I just would like the lid to fir more tightly. Overall, though I am happy with it.
My mistake not to calculate prev bin, but this is too small for even our small family. We have to empty it twice a week instead of once.
This bin is really nice looking on the countertop, but I'm sad to say that after a week I got flies. I even have both charcoal filters in the lid AND some beeswax wrap to protect from the food scraps. Feeling like having a countertop compost bin is not in the cards for me. If anyone has suggestions on how to not get flies, please do let me know.
