I am really enjoying our new Coravin. It is great for checking the aging of wines we are storing or for just deciding on a wine.
The Coravin system lets me enjoy a nice glass of wine without needing to finish the entire bottle, or risking the quality of wine remaining in an unfinished bottle.
This is so ingenious. Works great and keeps wine fresh and drinkable
This product is one of the best product to alp consumers to drink wine when they just want to enjoy a glass with out opening a whole bottle. No waste or trying to save your unused wine. I'm very impressed. And have recommended this to many others.
First let me say we love our system. We use our Coravin at our restaurant, and it allows us to offer rare and more expensive wines by the glass which pleases our customers greatly!! With regards to restaurant service, it would be great if there where some way to have it do a measured amount rather than a random pour. Our only problem with the system is that the capsules are such a waste. We liken them to plastic water bottles or k-cups. If the capsules were re-fillable the unit would be a 5 Star winner in our book. At the very least if they were recyclable...that might help, but still a HUGE waste of resources. Seems like with all the engineering involved in this unit, that was a huge oversight. Though I imagine that was because you want to sell more gas capsules, though you could just sell the refill size unit of the capsules. Either way, it is a travesty and definitely prevents us from using it more than we would like to.
My wife doesn't drink wine so before Coravin an open bottle of wine needed to be consumed relatively quickly or poured down the drain. I tended to drink more than I needed when first opening a bottle knowing it would deteriorate over the next couple of days. Now I enjoy one glass at a time knowing I can access it again at any time in the future with no deterioration. I love it. The only downside is that the gas cartridges do not seem to be consistent in the amount of gas. Some have only done 3 glasses. That makes this a bit expensive at times.
I really like the system. It liberates me to do wine tastings without opening a bottle. However, figuring out the amount that is poured has been difficult to figure out. If you hold the trigger down too long it seems to pour a lot of wine. I do like the system a lot!
I was very excited and enthusiastic about this product. However, after trying it on one of my bottles, I could notice that the wine got oxidized a bit after just a few days time. It was still drinkable but it had already lost its main characteristics.. I will try again on some other bottles hoping it was just an accident with this bottle...
We have yet to master a technique which will avoid the sediment, commonly found in older wines, from being ejected with the wine sampling. The Coravin system requires the somewhat severe upward tilting of the bottle for the wine sample to be ejected into the wine glass. We store our wines in the cellar horizontally with label facing up, so as to be able to gage where sediment may form.Based on usage to date, it seems that we will be required to remove desired bottle to be sampled, allow it to rest upright for likely a number of days prior to attempting to retrive a sample, however since there are numerous types of sediment we are not sure if this will even help us avoid getting sediment in the first samole drawn ? Suggestions welcomed !
Since purchasing the Faster Pour Needle, I have had nothing but problems with my Coravin. I have already went through two capsules and only got two glasses of wine from each capsule. I never had this problem when I used the standard needle. I will be going back to the standard pour needle. Do not waste your money!
