I have a huge and powerful corded reciprocating saw, and it works fine, and has ever since I was a young man. But it is big and heavy, and I am now 76. And sometimes you just have a small, quick saw job that you hate to drag the beast out for. Or sometimes you have a job where you do not have an outlet. This saw is perfect for those situations, And to be honest, unless I have like a whole wall, or something similar to whack, I may never drag the corded one out again.
I am comfortable saying that because, while I have not used it on a job yet, I did take it out to test it. I used it on an old Formica countertop that I recently removed/replaced. It went through it just fine. And I tried it on a board with a couple of nails. The power of the saw was fine for that, but the kit came with mediocre blades, and the fine tooth one did not hold up to that. But I already had some fine blades, and the saw did its job with those.
It has been a long time since I bought a reciprocating, or a jig, saw. Now the blade mechanisms are so much simpler than with a hex wrench, which was perpetually lost. With this one you twist the chuck, insert the blade and release the chuck. So simple.
I included a pic with a small version DeWalt drill beside it for size comparison. They feel very similar in my hand.
So, in summary, I am glad to own this saw. It is not a commercial grade saw, but it is not priced like one. And it will do most anything that I am likely to need to do around my property. At just under $35, I think it is a great value.
