It definitely helps keep the fire safely in the center I have two boys (68) and it gives me more piece of mind when they are standing closer or if I am placing a drink on the surface It also gives the pit a more elegant feel !

Love it! Even though my measurements were a little off, I was able to adjust it just enough larger, because of the way it goes together, to fit exactly the way I wanted it to.
