If you travel in bear country, Counter Assault is an essential item to pack. It saves lives - both human and bear - by ending a close encounter without bloodshed. Its 40-foot spray permits you to lay down a wall of mist that the animal runs through. Once they get a whiff of the concentrated capsaicin, bears typically turn tail and run. Also useful in deterring mountain lions or aggressive coyotes. The spray doesn't require the precise, split-second accuracy necessary to stop a charging animal with a firearm. After a long search comparison between different bear sprays, I settled on this brand. The instructions were very clear. The canister can easily be holstered to carry on your side.I can't say it works or not, but lets just hope I never have to find out.
Fortunately I haven't used this spray, but the size is OK to hang on my wheelchair arm while rolling through a nasty part of the city. If it's truly effective at 30 feet and will burn the eyes of an assailant, I'll be happy!
