Cra-Z-Art's Softee Dough Sparkling Mermaid Salon, 1 Multicolor Dough Kit, Ages Group 3 Years and up

I have bought several of the Cra Z Art softee dough play kits for my niece and she has loved every one of them and still players with them regularly. They are all bright, creative and fun.

I was recently gifted a Softee Dough Mermaid Play Salon complimentary in exchange for my honrst review, and both of my grandbabies love it, even though ideally it is for a slightly older age group. The babies spotted this playset though, and that was that, they are the new owners. Both kids loved watching the hair grow, and my grandson really enjoyed combing and cutting the softee dough hair. We even styled it into buns on top of the mermaids heads. I would definitely recommend this play set for any kids in the age range of 4-8 and up, although this 3 year old had a blast too.

My child played with this salon and had conversations while cutting and styling the dough hair! It was so very fun! I joined in and we laughed and it was a real bonding experience! The dough smells amazing! The colors are vibrant and the tools are easy for small and large hands to use!

My six year old daughter loves playing with softee dough. The softee dough mermaid salon is very fun and full of fun colors and accessories. She loved cutting thier hair and then letting it regrow with more playdoh. The playdoh is very soft and easy for little hands to use.

True to Cra-Z-Art fashion this is another great product. My niece is having so much fun playing with all that is included in this set. The dough sparkles is her favorite. I don't allow glitter so this is the next best thing. With 10 pieces there is plenty to keep her busy and to hear her laugh while creating is so great. Definitely recommend!

CraZart softee dough sparkling mermaid styling salon comes with everything your little one needs to grow one of two or both mermaids hair. One mermaid is light purple fin & mint green top & other is a deep purple ( bluish) fin with pink top. You place one of the four colors or mix them and spin their chair ( simple easy assembly)& watch their hair grow. This set comes with play plastic scissors for cutting their hair and a modeling knife to style the hair also comes with a wide tooth comb. The bott of the hair dressing chair has little molds you can make and place on your mermaids hair, there's a heart , cloud, half moon, a star and a circle & the back of the chair has a big star. This set comes with four colors of dough, pink, yellow, blue and white. Set up a nice area and let your little one become a mermaids hairdresser. Hours of fun and let their imagination run wild. This is a quality fun art set for kids where they can have fun and learn how to form shapes and designs. The 10 piece included Mermaid kit is fun for kids to make many things and show them off proudly. The set is well made and can be used over and over again. There’s enough for a few kids to play together. I like this set and she uses it over and over.

My daughter did enjoy this, which essentially is the most important part, but as the parent who had to put it together, show her how to use it, unclog it, and will have to buy more dough, I was not a huge fan. The chair is annoying to put together. The dough gets stuck in the spinning grooves. Once the dough is mixed together to do ombre hair, that's it, it's mixed and will eventually be a gross color so I will have to buy all new dough.

I was sent a free Cra-Z-Art Softee Dough Sparkling Mermaid Stylin’ Salon to review. I have given this 2 out of 5 stars. The kit comes nicely boxed but there are absolutely no directions to putting the thing together. So, I will start with that. The styling chair is 4 pieces. A base, the pole, the seat, and a chair back. The pole screws into the seat by dropping it in from the top and screwing it down the pole. The bottom of the pole sets into the base and is supposed to stay secure, but it isn’t even though there is a tab at the bottom of the pole that when turned in the base seems to secure it. The back of the seat just sets in a slot. There are 2 mermaids. Each mermaid has a cylinder to put the dough into and the mermaid that turns. Together they slide into the base of the chair. To get the “hair” to come out you must turn the chair base on the screw portion of the pole, and this forces the dough out of the cylinder to whatever length you want. I can honestly say that I had to pick up the whole thing to turn the pole to get the “hair” to come out. Dough gets caught in the screw and it becomes extremely hard to turn. There is no way a 3-year-old would be able to do any of this without adult help. It includes 3 cans of soft glitter modeling compound and 1 can of regular modeling compound. Each compound is 2” tall by 2” wide. It is not super sparkly like the picture shows. It has minimal sparkles to it. It is very soft which helps it come out of the holes like hair. The kit includes scissors to cut the hair, a small modeling knife and a large, toothed comb. The comb does not work on the hair because the dough is too soft, so it just rips it out. After making one mermaid hair- do you have to find somewhere for her to sit as her tail is always down. I used one of the dough cans. Clean up wasn’t too bad but you have to get all the dough out of the tiny holes before storing or it will harden up and be difficult to get out. On the box they show the mermaids with multiple colored hair. The only way to do this would be to stuff multiple colors into the cylinder. This would change the color of some of the dough and getting the colors back to the original would be impossible. The little hearts, moon, star, and circle decorations are done by pressing the dough into the very small cut-outs in the base and gently pulling them out. They are not open from the bottom to push them out. My 3 1/2-year-old granddaughter lost interest in this kit after about 15 minutes because she could not do it by herself. She is of the age where she wants to do things by herself. She played with the dough and the mermaids but after a couple of times doing the hair together, she just plastered dough on their heads. After that she just wanted to move on to the next thing. Overall, the idea is cute, but I am not very happy with this set.
