Cuts like the knives in my kids' ‘kitchen'
I received this mandolin as a replacement to my old one as the blades had dulled after so much use. Seeing how beefy it was had me excited to use it. Alas, after one use, I'm pulling the old one out of the GoodWill bag as its dull blades still slice better than this, the new one. The hand guard is so shallow, it doesn't ‘hold' onto bigger items like potatoes. But even when I cut them down (sorry kids, no long fries for you), it was a struggle to get the potatoes through the julienne blade. Further, the crinkle cut blade sticks up a bit even in the safe setting, so you end up with strings of potato in addition to the julienned. I'll certainly give it another try, but the first go left me notably unimpressed.
