CURT Roof Rack Cargo Carrier, 16 sq ft Storage, Lightweight, Exterior Automotive Accessories

I have a 2023 Tacoma. The installation is NOT as simple as the instructions and videos lead you to believe. Fishing the two carriage bolts and large rectangular plates through the bumper beam and out the holes in that beam is extremely difficult and tedious, and I can envision some owners not even being able to accomplish it. I also had to beat the hitch with a dead blow hammer to get it into location so that I could thread the mounting bolts into the tapped holes in the truck frme. The hitch seems to be made well, but just be advised that the installation might be a PITA.

So far I am very happy with my new cargo rack. Installation was easy, shipping was fast, and the product seems sturdy and durable.

Great price, delivered quickly and has worked well for light use. Comes on and off with ease after a little practice. Makes a nice combo with the extension and larger cargo bag for a put-together set.

I did mount the rack successfully and the rack appears quite secure. Along the way I had to shorten the U bolts as others have reported as the ends extend into the cargo area. The mounts rest off center on the two rails of the car due to the spacing of the rack's bars. Curt's service told me that would be acceptable as long as the rack is secure. It is, but there was nothing in the instructions to tell the user that.

For my installation the u bolts were too long and I had to shorten them to prevent gouging of any Tim placed in the basket. I also placed thread protectors on them.

I looked a lot for roof baskets for my Hybrid Rav4 2022 and its hard to find one that fits and the amazon ones seem to all rust. The plus for this one is that it does fit (if you buy the extension), but in the end it is too cheaply made. The paint easily chips off (even when bought new it had chips off of it already). It also isn't solidly built and easy to install. If you have a RAV4 and are in this budget range I recommend motomaster's roof basket from canadian tire or sport rack vista - both need the extension. They come with warranty and you feel the difference right when you pull it out of the box from instructions to sturdiness of material.

Nothing worse than getting an item that was previously sold and returned... the plastic clips that hold the fairing at front suck period. Three of them broke while spreading them onto the bars. Still used them until I can get the JomeDepot to get something else (like metal clips) that should have been provided to begin with. Now I have a cut hazard in the meantime. Curt should also be providing rubber or plastic caps for the end of the bolts pointed upward from the u-bolts that attach the rack to your roof rack bars. I guess you get what you pay for...
