I have used the paste to clear up and then prevent scratches on heels (best thing to work ever) and thought I'd get the powder to help as a rain rot preventative to use under my horses sheet / blanket. Not only has this worked, it has helped clean (i.e. dry shampoo) him a bit and also helped dry up his heels and pasterns after some muddy and wet days without drying his skin. I recommend using this as a preventative under blankets/ sheets and leg wraps; clearing up scratches or rain rot is never fun, especially in the winter.
Love this product along with the Paste for more acute issues. The Powder is always in my grooming bucket, and can be used for so many things. My mare gets sweet itch during the summer and I apply this product into the base of her mane to help prevent itching and rubbing. I've also used this on cannon crud and general skin scurf. And my other favorite use is on sweat marks - it works like a dry shampoo and helps them to dry quickly even in cooler weather. This product is easy to apply - it comes in a baby-powder type of bottle with a shaker top. A little goes a long way which makes this a great value as well. One thing to note is that it will bleach out dark coats if used regularly, so if your horse is dark like mine you should keep that in mind before use. For me the efficacy is worth the minor inconvenience. I highly recommend this for any horse owner, as it has so many uses that it should be a staple in every grooming kit!
My horse has a thick winter coat, and this powder has been very helpful in drying out the sweaty spots. The powder has a pleasant scent and it does the trick!
I started using this stuff after clearing up some scratches on the back of my horses heels using the coat defense paste. Once it was cleared up, I started using this powder about every other day when I'd visit my horse as a preventative. It seems to help keep heels dry even when in contact with wet grass of mud, as my horses heals are noticeably cleaner and drier than the rest of her legs! I have also applied it to some canon crud and it cleared it up slowly. Overall, if you grab the big size, it's such a good bang for your buck as it lasts a while, and prevention can't hurt when it comes to horses! Smells kinda nice too and is easy to rub in!
This product is hands down my go-to for all things skin with my horse. He has incredibly sensitive skin, and this product has made both of our lives much easier and enjoyable. He is prone to fungal issues on his pasterns each summer, and we tried this on him last summer and it was the only product that stopped it completely! We continued to use it on the area after it had cleared up for preventative purposes. Living in Massachusetts, our winters can be harsh, but my horse is a powerhouse and sweats just as much as he would on a summer day. I put this on him after I un-tack him after a ride and it truly helps expedite the drying process and saves me a lot of time not needing to towel-dry him as long. I also lent this product to a barn-mate who has a Friesian that is prone to scratches and they have yet to have any issues with scratches so far this season. They now use this product regularly for their horse. I love that we can also use this product for anti-microbial purposes in our helmets, saddle pads and horse boots. I highly recommend this product for all things skin, especially for those that have had trouble finding something that works.
Bought this at the recommendation of a friend. I have tried various products over the years for sweet itch, rain rot, cannon bone crude and scratches. It's easy to apply. Rubs in smoothly and is cooling to the touch. Has saved my dear horse from itching out the top of his tail and made the rain rot along his spine disappear within a week. Now a permanent member in my grooming box!
Amazing! I have a gelding that lived outside during the wet season and now has some nasty rain rot on his back/hind end. Used this powder for the first time and could feel some of the scabs coming off in my hands. After just two uses, it has cleared up almost completly.
My pony is very itchy and rubs his tail, especially when it's hot. He was vetted and given meds, but nothing worked. I decided to try this product, and I have to say that it works. He still rubs from time to time, but nothing like before.
It didn't work good enough at first but after stopping it and starting it again it helped. Works good for my girl with sweet itch in Florida. I bought a makeup powder puff things to apply it easier and it helps. I also use something else for my girl that I rotate this with.
I got this so that I could get extra help in drying my horse's coat before putting a blanket back on her. (You sprinkle it on, rub it in, and brush it out). Make no mistake. This stuff works great. I read the ingredients and it is a basically baking soda, cornstarch, and mint extract (for the pleasant smell). They claim to prevent bacterial skin issues. Here is the thing. Bacteria loves moisture. Any time you remove moisture, you prevent bacteria. You can buy it if you like, but after this bottle runs out, I will just make it.
