Danger Close

Shauner May 22, 2017

Danger Close serves to enlighten rather than strictly entertain. To its avail, the success of this film is all thanks to the determination of the filmmakers, Alex Quade, and of course the crux of the film which is fallen soldier Robert Pirelli. Quade is a journalist with unprecedented access to Iraq and embeds with several platoons and follows their dangerous daily missions. If that isn't crazy enough, the film ups the stakes when it changes focus to Rob Pirelli, a recently killed soldier who took it upon himself to transform a mere desert house into a stable military outpost located in near the war zone. Alex connects with his family back home, here we see a honest portrait of a family who, although faced with a loss, understands the importance of military duty and what it stands for. A promise from the father to Quade sets her out on a mission to see to it that Pirelli's legacy still stands tall and remains intact. What we have in the end is a film that inspires and captivates with real war footage and real emotions. There is never once a false note in Danger Close, people who seek it out to watch would appreciate its authentic nature and attentiveness to detail

Inspiring and Heroic

gabdipico May 31, 2017

Danger Close is my favorite documentary in the Hero's of Valor collection, which includes Hornets Nest and Citizen solider. I loved that the documentary showed the hard truths of war, but also the dedication of journalists. Freelance war reporter Alex Quade really inspired me to give back to our troops, and to never give up on myself or my promises. Quade was so determined on returning to Fallen Staff Sargent Robert Pirelli's, handmade combat outpost, that she didn't consider giving up even when put into dangerous situations. The Combat Outpost was located in one of the most dangerous cities in Iraq. It was the Pirelli family dream to see what had happened to the outpost after their son died in a firefight against Al Qaeda. The documentary brought me to tears and gave me an even greater appreciation for our selfless troops and journalists. I recommend this film to anyone that enjoys war documentaries and is inspired by people that never give up.

Danger Close

David June 1, 2017

Danger Close was unlike any other documentary I had seen before. As a military documentary, it combined the perfect blend of engaging action with real footage from the field while still being informative and empathetic to the struggles of military families – all while remaining politically neutral. The film begins by telling the story of a Green Beret who was killed in action named Rob Pirelli. The Pirelli family asks a female war reporter, Alex Quade, who had worked with Rob in the past to trek through Iraq to see if the outpost that Rob built still stands. Danger Close gave me new insight into the bravery of our troops and the strength of their families. I absolutely recommend experiencing Danger Close.

Heartfelt and Authentic Experience

Anonymous May 23, 2017

As a film lover looking for a unique take on real stories of real heroes in today's society, Danger Close fulfilled my quest. Alex Quade, freelance war journalist, took on the task no one else dared. She is the only journalist to be embedded long term with special forces units which leads her to tell the honest stories and capture uncensored footage of our troops. The documentary specifically focuses on Staff Sergeant Rob Pirelli who lost his life during a combat mission. Quade, to honor and bring closure to his family, dedicates herself to uncovering his story and those still fighting. The anecdotes from Pirelli's family reminds you of the sacrifice delivered by these courageous men and women and of the loved ones they leave behind. Filled with captivating footage and genuine tales of soldiers in Iraq, this military documentary immerses you into the story as if you were Alex Quade with her handheld video camera. If you enjoy an exhilarating film experience that will leave you in introspection, Danger Close is a film for you.

Very moving military documentary

Justin May 23, 2017

Danger Close is a real and uncensored look into special force combat operations in the Middle East. David Salzberg and Christian Tureaud's documentary offers viewers an unprecedented chance to embed with award-winning journalist Alex Quade and follow on her mission to honor combat engineer Rob Pirelli, who made the ultimate sacrifice. As a result, Danger Close offers some of the most engaging and affecting military sequences, like Quade joining a special forces unit on their live fire training. I recommend watching this engaging and authentic film as soon as possible.

Raw and Insightful Military Documentary

Isaac May 24, 2017

Using raw and uncensored footage, Danger Close presents harrowing scenes from Special Forces units deployed in Iraq who risked their lives every day in order to protect the freedoms of others. This new and insightful documentary highlights what it takes to be a soldier in our military today and the immense sacrifices involved when fighting on the front lines. This heart-warming story is definitely a must-see film for anyone who has served in our military, or wants to gain a better understanding of the day to day operations that our armed forces is responsible for.

Incredibly Real and Gripping

CostasMakriyannis May 24, 2017

Danger Close is not your average documentary. Danger Close is a gripping and emotional raw footage documentary following award winning war reporter Alex Quade on her journey to document the stories of special forces units in Iraq. Danger Close doesn't shy away from showing the audience what war looks like; not only in a physical sense, but also what war is like in an emotional sense and the toll it takes on soldiers' families as well as fellow soldier's themselves. This film's ability to communicate so many aspects of war from a third person perspective give its audience the closest thing to the experience of war itself while still maintaining an objective viewpoint and not teetering between political alignments. I'd recommend Danger Close to anyone hoping to see the true consequences of war on those closest to the heroes that sacrifice their lives every day for their country.

Documentary Gives Enthralling Experience

Anonymous May 23, 2017

“Danger Close,” is a gripping and enthralling experience, whose visceral nature is something every viewer can physically experience through its genuine and unprecedented footage. Whether you're a fan of documentaries or a supporter of the armed forces, this film gives valuable insight into the previously unrecognized reality of the modern-day soldier. Told through the lens of her own personal camcorder and the voice of freelance journalist Alex Quade, “Danger Close” takes its audience on an emotional and inspiring journey into the heart of the War Zone, witnessing small sparks of humanity and humor in a desolate place, as well as quiet notes of bravery and conviction. I enjoyed following Quade through her pilgrimage to a Combat Outpost and experience first-hand the lives and loves of American soldiers.
