This paint granulates like crazy!

Painter Nary March 13, 2026

Read lots of articles/comments regarding Daniel Smith's Lunar Black watercolor. I have to say, it is a granulating machine and didn't disappoint. I've only painted a couple pieces so far, but the possibilities of what it can do appears quite broad. My only problem is I wish I had bought a bigger tube!

Wonderful color

CARRIE August 31, 2025

I use so much of this color. One of my big 3 colors. This version is a gorgeous blue color that is perfect for nearly everything. I use it a lot for night skies or deep water. It plays beautifully with other colors as well. I cannot express how much I love this color or how much I use it. For me this is one of the must have colors in a palette.

Texture!

PENNY September 8, 2025

I love Daniel Smith watercolors in the tube. I was recently commissioned to make a piece for a wedding which involves a landscape honoring the places where the couple each grew up. A fall blueberry field will be featured in all its glorious reds. I had the reds but needed some texture loving paints to supplement what I had. It is a WIP but I'm loving the hematite genuine to glaze over it. The Green apatite genuine for the foliage, and the Quinacridone Gold to brighten up the edges. Such fun.

My students love these!

Oak Pony Originals March 30, 2026

Daniel Smith watercolors have intense pigmentation and are easy to mix. My students K thru 12 find it easy to create the color and intensity they desire in their paintings. Because of the ease of use, the paint goes farther and saves money as well as producing a superior product.

Totally recommend this color by Daniel Smith

BEVERLY April 4, 2025

This color is unique and so beautiful. It is light and transparent. It is more expensive than many other products, but well worth it, as it has a special quality unique from other colors.

Oh! What a gorgeous color!

BARBARA June 28, 2025

It is beautiful in mass but it shines when mixed with other colors. It will replace "opera" on my pallet. The best part It has an excellent flight fast rating.

A Green you need!

SARAH November 22, 2025

One of the few 'greens' I'll use out of the tube. It's fabulous. Jerry's always packages the paints well and they arrive in pristine condition and within days. Thank you!

Expense but performs nicely

PAULA February 23, 2026

This color is very delicate and it's truly lovely. I guess for the year expense. I don't know. I think I've built it up more in my head of what I was gonna look like however, it performs it performs nice it has a good it has a good you know bloom when you need to do it but it's just it is a much lighter pigment than I kind of thought it would be.

Who knows because Jerry's never actually sent it

DANA November 4, 2025

Usually Daniel Smith makes great watercolors but for this one I can't know because Jerry's can't be bothered to send the products their customers paid for. This is not the first time they've left things out of my order. They keep pushing their product review emails at me but apparently can't answer customer service emails about missing items, so here we are.

I would not buy this pigment again

Jules June 15, 2026

I don't like to be negative but this Mayan Blue from Daniel Smith is difficult to use and not a great color to add to your palette. It is hard to wet the dry pigment on palette as it is clay based. The pigment has heavy binder that makes it too dense to flow right on your paper and terrible for layering. Using a dispersal against like ox gall will be needed, but the color does not warrant the effort.
