Darn Tough is a well-established, well-respected brand. Made in USA so that's good too. I consider these mid-weight, high quality wool socks. Good for hiking , especially spring and fall. I live in Minnesota and wear these as everyday socks during our cooler seasons. I have hardwood floors so these go well with slippers to keep my feet warmer than otherwise. All in all they're better quality, warmer socks. Wool socks always cost more but that's offset partly by the fact that they don't wear out--if they do, Darn Tough offers to exchange them for new ones.

I bought another pair because the two pair I have had for 10 years are still going strong. I feel that these socks keep my feet warmer than just cotton socks in the winter. Not all colors available which can be slightly disappointing. There are colors that aren't compatible with my clothes and lifestyle.

But Darn Tough is my new sock for life (literally given their lifetime warranty). They are by far the most comfortable socks I own due to their quality construction, thoughtully designed cushioning and breathability. I have worn them in temperatures ranging from 12 degrees to 95 degrees and they kept my feet warm and toasty in the cold but don't overheat when achieving warmer hikes. They wisk moisture away quite well and dry quickly. As an added bonus they really keep out the stink - at least in my experience. On backpacking trips, where space and weight is a premium and can wear them multiple days, which is really useful. I have recommended or flat out bought them for dozens of friends and family and will continue to do so. I love their company!
