The game is pretty much awesome because it offers basically a training simulation. You practice matching the beat, lyrics, and flow of some of the most popular songs in Hip Hop. You can also spit your own lyrics and match them to someone elses beat. I'd say anything that could make this game funner would be a "create your own character" mode, which games like DJ hero have.
I bought this wii game for my husband's birthday, we love Karaoke Revolution for wii but that game is targeted to more "pop type" song so I like the idea of something more rap based. Def Jam Rapstar was perfect for that. The game itself is pretty cool. It's harder than what we expected but none the less fun. If you like hip hop, rap and R&B this game is for you. It also has video clips and is very entertaining.
I just got the game and played it until I had to go to bed. I even got my best friend to play and this is SO not his type of video game. But this game is just fun! And if you didn't give rappers props for being able to do this, you will by your 3rd song. It's work people. And your shortness of breath will verify that with a quickness. Two words of advice: First, get the bundle with the mic. Multiplayer is MUCH more fun with two mics. Second, be a Hip-Hop lover. Top 40 fans will only know the hook and this game is about rapping, not singing. Pros: 1 Playlist is hot. Good variety of both old and new popular songs 2 Music sounds awesome. I had to turn down my bass 3 Having the full video as a backdrop was brilliant (made me miss 80's/90's MTV), plus you can skip intro/outros if you want 4 Battle and Duet modes are done really well. Even solo songs split the verses between both players 5 Practice mode is a HUGE help by being broken down into verses and chorus 6 Game doesn't penalize you for adlibs or doing the original verses which sometimes include curse words. (all songs in the game are the radio versions) Cons: 1 Lyrics could be a bit larger, especially the upcoming verse 2 Your vocals seem slightly delayed, even after the calibration 3 The music seems pretty background compared to your vocals, even at its loudest setting 4 Seems 3 songs are missing on the Wii version (DMX Ruff Riders Anthem, ONYX Slam, and Kanye West Stronger). I want those songs. 5 Not sure why Wii is not allowing the additional downloadable songs (19 new songs have already been added) I know that seems like alot of Cons, but they are all very MINOR compared to the fun Hip-Hop Head will have playing this game. Def Jam did this right and plenty of huge artists will be begging to get on the next version. JD PS: I only gave 3 stars on value because I'd recommend the bundle which includes the game and a mic for only $10 more.
It was really interesting because it has songs I haven't heard in a long time but then it gets boring because theres very few songs and it takes a lot to unlock them.
