Great trimmer! Using the .095 cord, cuts through the toughest of weeds. Battery time is good. If I had a complaint it is the balance. You can adjust the handle position but not the length and causes the unit to be out of balance when holding by the handle.
Picked this up a couple weeks ago to replace a 4 cycle gas trimmer. This exceeds expectations. Lighter, just as powerful as gas. No hassle starting like gas trimmers. Only issue is the guard could be bigger to prevent clippings from covering you.
Plenty of power and battery life, plus swap battery if need more run time. Very easy to remove spool for refill. If used properly, you are hit with little if any debris. Use the right side to cut, that throws stuff forward. If you do not pay attention and start cutting left of center, stuff will start kicking back. This is true of any string trimmer, pay attention to how it works.
Not your normal dewalt reliability, only 9 months old and like other have said started smoking i removed the battery waited an hour put battery in and it is a paperweight now so 😔 not what I am use to with the dewalt name. I have drills and saws and grease guns impacts cutting wheels and this is a first for me with dewalt ..... hopefully they stand behind the name
I have mostly enjoyed this trimmer over the last couple seasons aside from the mediocre guard but it has decent power and is perfect for my smallish yard. Like many others have stated, I was in the middle of trimming and all of a sudden I see smoke, boom dead. I have been careful to keep the vents clean and grass from being wrapped around the head. Upon disassembly I see the motor windings are mostly black and appear to have shorted. Disappointing because I am fully committed to the Dewalt line both professionally as a mechanic and for home lawn use. I might fix this one or go back to gas. But now that I've seen the other failures it just appears to be a failure waiting to happen.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this trimmer 3 month ago. It is a very powerful trimmer. It can pretty much handle all kinds of trimming jobs. However there is a defect of this trimmer, my 60v 9ah and 60v 12ah batteries always got stuck on the battery holder and couldn't be removed. The only way to remove the batteries is to use a hammer to knock them out of holder. Very disappointing and dysfunctional.
I'm on my 3rd one of these trimmers…all 3 have had the same problem where the motor begins to smoke and quits working. I weed eat from April-Oct and they all seem to quit in September. When the trimmer works, it does a great job. My husband and I have invested a lot of money into the batteries, that's why I'm on number 3. I don't like using a gas powered trimmer. The is perfect size for me to use. No gas to worry about. I have had a few batteries seem to get stuck and won't come out. My husband had to help me there. It's getting expensive buying trimmers ever year.
I have used the trimmer 4 times for light work on my lawn. Trimmer head loses line too fast. Replacing the line is a total pain. The head is now broken. Tool is completely useless now unless I replace the flawed head! DEWALT: design a new head that doesn't break after light use and provide better line that doesn't break off so easy and I will rate this tool at 5 stars
I bought this cause I got tired of keeping a mixed fuel can and maintaining the small engine on my old red max. This didn't have quite as much power as my old commercial grade piece but sufficient for my 1 acre yard. I've used this DeWalt 3 times absolutely excellent and i love that it works with my impact sawzall drill and circular saw batteries. On my second flex volt battery of my yard the head starts smoking like crazy and it quits... I guess we'll see how good the warranty is. This unit is only 120 days old.
This trimmer will definitely handle what you want to cut regarding grass & weeds. Be prepared to be covered with whatever you're cutting. Definitely wear long pants & eye protection, considering a full face shield. I'll be trying again with a long sleeve shirt too as my supporting arm is welted from flying debris. This shield is about 1/3 of the size it needs to be & seems to be in there just for cutting excess line. I would have rated all stars if it wasn't for this & would like to see a retrofit offered. In the meantime, I'll use my 2-cycle, it's safer!
