Bought this saw last year, used it on many jobs. It came perfectly setup right out of the box. Love the ease of the dual bevel adjustments. Beautiful saw for trim work.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] A little over two years ago when we moved into our new house, I retired my 23-year-old miter saw (another brand) and I started looking for a replacement. I wanted a double bevel, 12" compound miter saw to use for trim, wood flooring, and cabinet construction. I need something durable and that could be installed into a custom built 12-foot-long miter saw station with cabinets that I planned on building. Having read multiple magazine and online reviews and talking to various contractors in our neighborhood and several that work on our home, the DeWalt DWS780 kept coming up as the recommended saw. My previous miter saw had a laser cut line that would sometimes get out of alignment, but I thought I had to have on my replacement saw. The DWS780 does not offer a laser cut line but has what DeWalt calls a “Cutline Blade Position System.” There is a light source above the blade that casts a shadow onto your material. I was dubious at first but have grown to like it better than the laser. There is no adjustment. Just bring the blade down to the material and you can clearly see the kerf line. Change the blade, and unlike the laser, the kerf line is perfectly aligned. I have used it extensively on the DWX723 heavy duty stand, which is a must-have accessory if you plan on using it on a job site. I am in the process of building my miter saw station now and look forward to having it as an "installed" tool in the miter station. Now for it's one minor flaw. Dust collection. In general, dust collection on miter saws is difficult at best. The DWS780 miter saw dust collection uses a small "chute" at the back of the saw blade with a long 1 ½” tube that extends to the back of the slides and exits parallel to the saw blade. The saw comes with a bag or you can attach a 1 1/2" shop vac hose to the back tube. While the bag does collect dust, it leaves quite a bit on the bed of the saw. Using a shop vac or a high CFM dust collection system with it doesn't do much better. The collection tube also extends the already deep depth of the tool – not an issue on a stand, but in a built-in miter station, required my base cabinets to be an extra 5” deep to account for the vacuum hose sticking out the back. A shorter tube with a 90 degree elbow that doesn't extend past the slides would have been better, but really only affects it in an installed situation. While I would have preferred a better dust collection solution, it would not stop me from buying this saw again, but based on my experience with DeWalt quality, I'll have this saw for the rest of my life.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Beast of a Miter Saw — Smooth, Accurate, and Way Too Fun to Use I've used a lot of miter saws over the years, but this DeWalt 12” sliding double-bevel is on a whole different level. The power is unreal — it cuts through thick hardwood like it's bored and looking for a challenge. The slide action is buttery smooth, the accuracy is spot-on straight out of the box, and the bevel adjustments are so easy and precise that even I can't mess them up. The dual-bevel feature is a game changer for workflow. No flipping heavy boards, no recalculating angles, no “wait… how did I cut the wrong side again?” It just makes every project move faster and cleaner. Crown molding, trim work, big structural cuts — everything comes out looking pro. I also love how solid the saw feels. There's no wobble, no drama, no weird noises — just confidence. The dust collection is better than most miter saws (which isn't hard, but still), and the overall build quality feels like something that's going to last way longer than it should be allowed to. If you want a miter saw that delivers accuracy, power, ease of use, and makes you look like you know exactly what you're doing, this is it. DeWalt absolutely crushed it with this one. Highly recommend.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Our pastor was building a library at his house. I volunterred to help. We spent 3 months plus building 72 book cases. Thee mitre saw was special. Being able to set it for shelves lenght and just keep cutting knowing they would be perfect, then cutting trim and it going in like a glove. He was as happy as can be and we (3) we also.
As best I can tell the blade somehow came into contact with the plastic shield underneath the blade insert, kicked up, and broke the rear guard in the process. To be clear, in order for this to have happened, the blade would have had to come into contact with a part of the saw itself. To confirm this I tested the saw with the power off by pulling it down to its lowest position. I then put some force on the handle to see if I could make the blade touch the plastic guard again. I could not. In the end, my theory remains just a theory and I have to chalk this up to being some sort of fluke. Now i have to search the part number to order one because if will be broken to get a replacement
It's the March 5th 2023, and I just bought this DWS780 miter saw. Tested it with Guide Light ON. After the first test the light died. Part of the reason I bought that one is that I prefer the light over the laser guide. How do I go about having this light replaced ? Thanks
I use this saw everyday and love the auto tilt bevel locks and cuts perfect. I do wish the saw dust system wasn't a mile long tube to the bag. Clogs up right away. The fence slides are hard to slide out and have to get hit with my hammer to extend them. I would like to see dewalt set up a different slide system, with the bag on the back I hack to have over 3to4 feet from a wall so my saw has clearance makes cutting in hallways on big jobs impossible. I would also like the saw to have a little more rpm saw bogs down on cuts and causes the blade to warp in my cuts also. I also would like a laser and tape measure marks on the saw fence or even on the platform for fast cuts. Great saw but could be better.
I've had this for only a week so far and it has performed quite well. I've heard great reviews about the accuracy of the XPS cutline system and for the most part it is a great feature but the accuracy I feel is slightly exaggerated. I do lots of finishing work and the line it provides is more of a reference point and tends to be approximately 1/16 of an inch off on the left side of the blade but very accurate on the right side. I've also heard great reviews on the thought that went into developing the dust collection system and it does work pretty good with the dust collection bag. However if you need to hook up a shop vac to the saw it becomes completely useless, the flexible rubber guides on the intake of the dust collection port get sucked into the opening as soon as the vacuum turns on and completely plug the intake. The only way to make this system work with a vacuum is to remove the rubber guides and once you do that it loses any efficiency in dust collection. Aside from those couple issues this is an amazing saw that is very easy to use with an excellent cut range. I would definitely recommend this saw to anybody who does not plan on connecting it to a Shop-Vac.
Was excited about getting this!! Have used maybe 50 cuts and the led light quit working already. Funny thing is…I can't find a replacement for this. Just beware before buying…please check replacement part availability. Guess I spent the extra money on this for the light and now it don't work and I can't find a replacement part for it.
Really bad product a second miter saw I got thinking this one was going to be better than the one I had to return due to failure in the second month......motor stops by itself after starting the cut of a 2x12. Not even 1/4 of the way with anee blade and it stops. Sad.
