Best on market

Dentont86 August 28, 2026

I've been using the DeWalt 60V Max 17-inch string trimmer for a few months now, and it's a beast. It powers through thick weeds and overgrown grass like a gas trimmer but without the mess, noise, or maintenance. The brushless motor has serious torque, the quick-load head makes swapping line a breeze, and the adjustable swath is perfect for both edging and clearing bigger areas. It's built tough, feels balanced, and the battery lasts long enough for my whole yard on a single charge. If you're already in the DeWalt ecosystem, this thing's a no-brainer. Highly recommend it!

Graet tool wish id waited for the 3d update though

Household nate July 21, 2026

I bought this tool just before the 3d iteration came out and if I had known i would have waited for it. As this tools awesome it's had all the power iv needed to do any job so far and years later still works as advertised and use this thing on some ruff thick grass. It doesn't get the greatest battery life per cut but it's good enough. Compared to the origional.model that fried itself on the 3d use. But let's be real we all know that thing was a prototype to gauge public interest and no one expected it to live long

Very Satisfied

DHG31 August 24, 2026

I bought this product two months ago and I am very pleased with the performance. It has plenty of power and I have used a hedge trimmer attachment with it that worked great. This has completely replaced my gas powered trimmer.

Dewalt 60v trimmer attachment capable

BrettD August 3, 2026

I have had this trimmer for about A year. First thing it's most powerful trimmer I've ever had. 2nd universal attachments means most companies attachments will work. And finally it's been rock solid reliable..

Great product

Lleffas August 25, 2026

Great product. I use it every time I mow my grass. Putting new string in is super easy with the head that's on it

Decent overall. 17" is not for everyone.

UGA_Steve June 13, 2026

Has worked better than expected based on other reviewers complaints. I bought it regardless of the complaints (got the X1 model, but it's the same unit, just difference accessories). Some thoughts that might help others. 1) Complaints about it wrapping around the head. I have only had it happen one time that I used it, and it was the first time I used it. Basically what I learned was that you must let it spin up outside of super tall grass and then move it and and keep it moving (thickness doesn't matter as much as height from my testing). So spin it up, and move it back and forth. I have had no problems since figuring that out, and I am basically mowing 1000 feet of ditch bank every two weeks with two foot tall grass (steep slope). 2) I replaced the head unit early on. I bought tougher line and the DeWalt head unit just didn't like it. I got an brand that might get blocked, but let's just say it starts with an E and it is orange .... orange .... orange .... orange. 3) I still forget I don't have to hold the safety trigger down, and my old hands get tired. So as a heads up to others, once you get it started, you can let the safety trigger go so that you only have to use the one trigger. It makes a HUGE difference in total effort needed for some strange reason. Cons - The thing is heavy with the 9aH battery and not balanced all that well. On a steep slope it is just not much fun. DeWalt doesn't list the weight of just the head unit with or without battery, but with zero attachments. All major competitors tell you right up front how much just the main tool weighs. I will try to measure it without attachments to give folks an idea, but my guess is they do not disclose it because it's heavier than competitors. - I actually had a very cheap curved shaft from a competitor and it is much easier. Does every major brand think everyone using these things is 6'6" or something. - Despite a very decent size guard, I still get pummeled with debris when moving it one direction on the sweeping motion. Other direction is fine. Maybe they expect me to just spin in a circle? I have actually used a different brand with no guard at all and got hit way less. - The strap is not comfortable at all and really just a nuisance if you have to cut in a variety of ways due to the landscape. - The 17" cut is not for everyone. For smaller areas it is actually a hindrance. Just stick with the 15 if you don't plan on using this for clearing very large areas. Less weight and less effort, with the ability to do a bit better on the detail trimming. Overall, it's a very powerful trimmer with a wide path. Due to the nature of spin-up and constant motion it can be a bit annoying in tall grass.

This trimmer is almost great. It has incredible power that easily matches most gas trimmers but it has one major flaw, grass keeps getting wrapped around the shaft just above the trimmer head, while this can happen with any trimmer it is far worse with this one. if it wasn't for this I would definitely give it 5 stars.

Design flaw

Fair Maiden May 31, 2021

The trimmer works great but it has one serious problem. Grass or weed parts wind around the head under the compartment for the string and they get stuck there and there is no easy way to get them out. This causes the head to freeze in place and it is impossible to rotate the head to line up the holes for the line in order to load it. The loading process is also unnecessarily complicated. I had to waste time this morning trying to get the wrapped grass out from under the head.

Not Durable

Pensacolaviking July 27, 2021

I moved to make all of my tools to batteries over the last couple of years and I love the Dewalt battery operated tools....except for the string trimmer. I've bought two over the last six months and they both broke within weeks of purchase. Apparently they cannot handle trimming thick grass...both times I used in heavy grass, the trimmers just stopped working. I love Dewalt tools but I'm very disappointed with the durability of the trimmers...I want to stay battery operated so I'll probably need to look at another manufacturer.
