It doesn't look like much but it does the job. I followed the directions and my very first bottle, ever, came out perfect. So did the next three. I did not use the tapper because I've never seen good results on any videos. The cold/hot water method is awesome. Only wish it did square bottles.
This glass bottle cutter works perfect. However, in order to get clean cuts like in the picture, it is better not to follow the instructions that come with the kit. To mark the line, it is better to hold it horizontally on a table instead of doing it vertically. This way it is easier to rotate the bottle while keeping the right pressure on the bottle. Also, I found that it does not matter if you go through the cut line more than one time. Once the line is made, DO NOT USE the hot/cold water method. Sometimes it does not work if the glass is too thick, and other times the glass is not broken where you want, giving you an uneven edge. Instead, insert the metallic piece in the bottle and hit the glass right where you made the line. Go around bottle little by little and eventually you hear how the glass is getting cracked. The softer you hit the glass and the more time you take, the better results. If you find that a section of the line does not get cracked, you can remark that part with the cutter again. Once the bottle is cut, sand the edge with sandpaper.
My first attempt at using this product was less than stellar but I chalk it up to inexperience opposed to the quality of the product. Quality product and nice result expectations.
After attempting numerous methods of cutting bottles, this one actually works. It gives a good clean cut with minimal effort and little need for sanding edges.
Follow the directions in the you tube video and you great a great cut. I goofed just a little on the first one but the following 5 went wonderfully.
Some people complain that the glass cutter blade wears out too quickly. The instructions say to use oil, press lightly, and don't run the blade over the score mark a second time. No problem - plus the glass cutter comes with a whole set of blades. It's not especially easy to assemble the tool, and making adjustments is slightly clunky, but I managed to cut a few bottles perfectly. The tool to tap the inside of the bottle is fairly useless. If you read the instructions, however, they suggest dipping the bottle in boiling waterer, then ice water to have it separate on the score line. That technique worked for me. You might also want to read about how to use the sandpaper.
This item will do exactly what it is designed to do but you absolutely must follow the instructions! Etch the glass lightly! Don't try to "cut" the glass! Find the video on youtube on how to use it and do exactly what the lady says!
This is a great little gadget. It does exactly what it says it does. I used it on 6 wine bottles and it works great.
I read most of the reviews before purchasing a bottle cutter and this one was the best of a bad bunch. I decided to go with the good reviews and purchase the diamond tech G2. Both my father and I tried to use this and it just didnt work. It wouldnt score properly in order for us to use the hot/cold method afterwards. I was trying to be cheap as it was for my wedding and wouldnt be using it again, but due to it being more hassle that it was worth i decided to return the item instead. I think if i ever need to buy a bottle cutter again i would definately invest the money in a decent one instead.
I have a mess of unusable bottles with uneven breaks and cracks. It's too difficult to stabilize the cutter and turn the bottle while simultaneously pressing both hands towards each other. Also know that there are many tiny glass shards that end up all over so make sure you carefully clean your work area and pot/bucker of water afterwards.
