Diono Monterey 6DXT SafePlus High-BackBooster Car Seat, Black Storm

I was hoping to absolutely love this booster seat after I bought another brand that was too narrow and too short for my granddaughter. This booster seat expands sideways as you pull up on the headrest. The headrest has 12 positions but even at its tallest position it isn't quite tall enough for my 8-year-old granddaughter. I think part of the problem is that at this time of year she wears snow pants and a coat. The hard plastic underside of the headrest touches her shoulders. The back is so upright that she's almost leaning forward. To be fair, the other brand had the same problem. There is no way to recline the back because I have to keep the car's headrest in place. The booster seat's headrest is not strong enough to withstand backward head movement in an accident. The headrest pushes the seat back forward. The booster seat is completely flat on my car seat. I bought two of these boosters and the other seat is okay for my tinier 5-year-old granddaughter. But she, too, doesn't like that the back is at a 90° angle with the seat. The added side protection pod is dense foam and was very difficult to install but I finally was able to push it into the holes on the side of the chair. Much force was needed. Also, don't install the cup holders until you've latched the seat to the car. The latch releases are hidden behind the cup holders. I think they are good solid seats and I'd like my granddaughter to be in a full booster for safety but I might have to remove the back for her.
