Really cool to watch and Pretty!

Mstigeress September 19, 2019

I received this item free to write a review. My 13 year old daughter and I did this together. Everything you need comes in the box (including the aquarium). I won't give away the secrets, but you just follow the simple instructions and before your eyes you'll see the different colored crystals start to grow! Green, blue, pink, and yellow are the crystal colors. They are just so pretty to look at and learning the science behind it is very interesting. My daughter keeps it in her room and all of her friends ask about it. They don't go away or disappear after they grow. They stay in the same formation and can be placed anywhere for a decoration. This is definitely a great christmas or birthday gift for those kids that just want to know more and are hands on. It comes with everything you need to conduct the experiment! The manufacturer recommended age is 12 and up. Very pleased!!

Fun for adults and kids

Joy September 13, 2019

I received this product for free from the Wal-Mart Spark review program. My children ages 8, 4, and 2 absolutely LOVED this experiment. First, this product is recommended for ages 12 and older. It also has dangerous chemicals. I read the instructions and warning before I did anything and I am not going to lie, this warning scared me a bit. I wasn't even sure if I wanted to do it but I did and I am so glad! Since it is for 12 years and older I did not allow my kids to help with the set up and chemical process. I did it alone BUT they absolutely loved watching the rocks grow! It defiantly keep them distracted for a while l. Once the process was over and I could drain the chemical and replace with water my 8 year old could not wait to keep his rock growing aquarium in his bedroom!

Interesting for me and the kids

whitt September 17, 2019

This crystal growing experiment was interesting for me and the kids, you want to keep watching, it wasn't the greatest show but it does what it says it will. You have chemicals which is mixed with water for growing the crystal formations then you can keep in the aquarium on bedside table for them to admire, it turned out pretty good. The colors you have are blue, pink, green and yellow crystals and a clear aquarium to be decorated by kids. My kids are not scientist but they really enjoyed seeing the crystals forming and learned a bit about science. It is recommended for age 12 my kids are 11 and 12 and with me there helping had no problems. It is chemicals after all, I wouldn't let them do it by themselves. The kit explains how everything works and is easy to understand, which kept it interesting. It comes with plastic aquarium, growing rocks, 2 bottles of chemicals for growing the crystals, tank decal, a sticker sheet, poster, good instructions and nice poster that tells about the process. Discovery brand has lots of items more interesting for older kids.

Not for under 12 years old

MaddysMommy1234 September 6, 2019

I was really excited to grow some crystals with my 7 year old daughter. She is really into science and experiments. This kit is for 12 years and older and I didn't realize that at the time that I ordered. The instructions do indicate that the solution used is pretty caustic and dangerous if even touched. The container that you use to grow the crystals doesn't have a lid. So I've chosen not to grow crystals at this point. But the kit itself looks awesome, and the instructions are very clear and easy to understand.

Very cool

PapaSpice September 13, 2019

My 13 year old set this up by himself and he had no issues following the instructions. After a couple of hours you could really see the growth on the crystals. It was pretty neat. I've purchased other Discovery items before for my little scientist and have always been pretty pleased with them. This particular crystal aquarium comes with the aquarium, the growing rocks, two bottles of growing solution, a background, sticker sheet and a poster. The bonus poster has facts about crystals on it and measures 18 inches by 24 inches.

Let's Learn Together!

Faiths13 September 21, 2019

The following review in the Discovery Crystal Aquarium is based on personal opinion. My little boy has become fascinated with science so having the opportunity to test the Crystal Aquarium came at the perfect time. The set contains chemicals that can cause harm to skin, eyes and etc. so for safety purposes I handled mixing contents while my little ones observed. The directions are fairly clear, you will need some aluminum and a ton of patience (min. six hours). I recommend starting the process early morning and then going on with your plans or usual routine. We started around 11 am and while I went on with usual business, my kiddos were super excited and kept going back to see the rocks. Now, you will see a difference within the first 30 - 45 minutes, however, keep in mind the process is a minimum six hours. At the end of day, eight hours later, I figured this should be sufficient and went to check on the aquarium. What I saw are several pieces had changed into what reminds me of coral? Now, I'm not 100% sure that I did this correctly but I expected more crystals rather than corals??? Anyway, my kiddos really thought they were cool, and that's what matters. I do like idea of the kit so we are going to give it another run. However, on this next attempt I'm going crush the rocks more and hope for the best. Overall, if someone asked me about the kit I would say yes give it a shot. Even though I wasn't 100% successful my little ones really enjoyed the process, we are ready to try again and learn together.

One off thing

HotFamily September 10, 2019

This is a waste of money. It's a one time thing that is not reusable. It's a party gimic that not really useful. I do not particularly let one time items because they are wasteful and bad for the environment because it's used and the child wants to move on to the next item. Reusable toys are more useful as they can be used at different times.

Children enjoy watching the crystals but when we added a second batch the water got a pink cloudy color and the second batch did not grow.

Disappointing

MoonPearl September 6, 2019

My daughters were super excited for this kit! Sadly, there isn't anything really "sciency" about it. The chemicals were leaking in the box when we got it, the kids can't really handle most of the items because they are to toxic,, the rocks are big, hard to break chunks although the directions require small pebble pieces to use, and there is no explanation of what is happening. It's just dump some rocks in and pour in chemicals. A lid to put on the top would have been great too. If you're looking for a craft, it's nice, but I wouldn't expect to learn anything. The poster that came with it was pretty.
