My 8 year old son was super excited to try it out and had a ton of fun guessing where the gemstones would be and what kind. The material is difficult enough to make it take some time to build excitement. It is definitely messy, so I would suggest doing it outside (as we did) or cover whatever surface you're using well.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I didn't even have time to wrap it, because when the kids saw it, they squealed with delight! It was a fun afternoon "excavating" the fossils and learning more about the dinosaurs they came from. Dad win!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My 7 year old son LOVED this toy. He was so excited every time he found a gem and even got really into identifying them with their proper name. He spent a good while excavating and carefully extracting his treasures. Extra stars for being electronic-free. All around great product.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got this excavation shark tooth kit and it has been an absolute blast. This would make a perfect gift for kids as they will chisel their way through the rock and find shark teeth hidden inside. Great product and highly recommend.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The kids loved this. The rocks were little hard for them to crack open. They had to have help to break them. The rocks were pretty and all sorts of shapes and forms from them. Great for kids experiments.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My son had a blast breaking open his Geodes. Some broke open after they fell to the floor and others took a bit more work. I loved the new glasses that adjust so they can fit properly. My only complaint is that the Crystal's that were inside the geodes were all the same we maybe had one that was slightly different on the edge that had some color other than that it's just lots of fun breaking them open. After looking at the first few he was over it because there was nothing different.

The excavation kit was easy to use but it does need a little bit of help from a grownup. We were so excited to see which fossils we would get and we were not disappointed; these are real fossils! Not only was this a super fun and engaging activity, it helped us learn more about excavation and it was so nice to have my daughter pretend she was a dino expert. I think it took us about 20 minutes to finish the activity, with most of the the work being done by my daughter. We would definitely recommend this kit!

It came with two rocks to dig your gems out of and a poster with some fun information and facts on it. My issues with it are that it makes a huge mess and while they provide a chisel, there is nothing else to use. We ended up having to find something else to use with the chisel. Once we did that we were able to start! The only downfall is that it creates so much dust and "dirt" everywhere. We did place paper under it as recommended but it didn't help any. We got about 20 minutes of entertainment out of this. The gems that we dug out are very tiny and there is no guide provided to help you figure out what gemstone you got. Overall, it was ok. I had a big mess to clean up after though.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got this as a fun activity for me and my 2 children, ages 7 and 9. I thought this would be great because the box says 3 surprizes inside, which lead me to believe we would find 3 thing total in the clay rock. We let my youngest go first and he picked a lucky spot and ended up finding a gem stone right away. Next it was my daughter's turn and after over an hour of scraping away we figured out that the gem stone was the only thing in there. I'm unsure if the company is counting the clay and chisel as 2 of the surprises but I would have like them to better indicate that. Other than the disappointment of a child it was kind of fun.
