Witherspoon is fantastic in this true-to-life trail adventure. A few laughs and a lot of hardships. Great movie.

Bought this for a “Filmed in Oregon” section of free DVD loans for our guests. It was checked out as soon as I brought it to work!

Well acted, great scenery, good story

Good story, good acting, good movie

Reese Witherspoon stars as Cheryl Strayed in the film version of the acclaimed road memoir about a woman at a crossroads after losing her mother to cancer and who sets to hike the Pacific Crest trail without any prior hiking experience. Wild is a long road trip about a woman about to find herself and although we know that she will change at the end of the trip, the movie itself has many incidents which make us want to complete this hike with Strayed. Grief does strange things to people and Strayed is completely devastated when her mother succumbs to cancer. She embarks on a path of self abuse, which leads her to find the person in her that her mother truly wanted her to be. Wild is a very scenic trial and has been directed very well by Jean-Marc Vallee and is a decent film but I did not particularly enjoy it as a road movie.

I read the novel before watching the movie, and honestly the novel flows a lot better and contains more detail about Carol's journey on the PCT. I would recommend watching the movie, but would suggest that you read the book first, because a lot it left out.

The sexual content did not need to be so graphic. Foul language also doesn't make a movie great; and it was difficult to keep up with when she was going back in memories and current times. Has the possibilities to be a good movie. Reese Witherspoon is a great actress.
