Obsessed with night time hunting ritual

Kayla June 27, 2026

The yowling at night has significantly decreased ever since I started dropping these bad boys around the house! So grateful my little baked potato looks forward to her hunting sessions 🥰 so worth it! Heads up if your little ones tend to be aggressive with toys, keep in mind the latch can start to loosen after awhile so you may need to replace it if the latch stops locking (I would know because this is my second purchase after getting a good 4 years of use out of the first batch 😁)

Engagement for your fur baby

JenHM January 25, 2026

Fun feeder that was recommended by my vet for an overweight cat. It's a fun idea that creates engagement but consistency will be important for my chubby cat to lose weight. But, definitely worth a shot!

It's suggested to use for meal feeding, but I use it to hide a few cat treats around.

Cat Hunting feeder, great concept!

anonymous January 3, 2019

My rescue cat (previous outdoor cat) has stopped crying for food! She has become more independent and less bored. Great idea and only a little mess. I'm still trying to get her to 'play' with the mouse, rather than just rolling it around to get the food out, so will remove the plastic liner from one of them and see how she responds. Good quality and a good price. One tiny draw back, filling them. After having the food fall all over my counter, I finally learned to cup the mouse in one hand and then roll the wayward pieces into the holes with my fingers.

Doc %26 Phoebe's Indoor Hunting Cat Feeder

Klkota January 21, 2026

I hesitate reviewing this item, because it didn't work at all for my cat. My cat is nine years old and he wouldn't have anything to do with these. However, this doesn't mean it wouldn't work with a younger cat or even another older cat.

Indoor Hunting Feeder needs a lot of work

cholito December 27, 2018

I am all for letting our indoor cats live a more natural life but this device won't help them much. I was intrigued to see it work after I watched the interview with Dr. Becker and the inventor of this gadget, but you know that sinking feeling when you order something not quite knowing what to expect and then...well, the results are underwhelming. It's basically a blue piece of plastic container with 3 holes and a piece of fabric covering this container in the crude shape of a mouse. I put the thing to the test. Sure enough, the cat found it in no time wherever I put it and ate the cat food in it. He also made a mess, knocked things over as he clambered on furniture to reach the 'mouse' and spilled the dry food all over the floor, with some of it getting under furniture and hopelessly out of reach for him. I was wondering what they meant by 'not messy' on the package. I would not recommend putting any wet food in it and even if you use dry food, there will be a mess unless you train the cat to 'hunt' it and eat it in such a manner that he doesn't knock over the mouse or objects that are around it. As far as I can see, I could just take some dry cat food and scatter it around the house so the cats have to find it. (Which I do sometimes, but I don't consider it 'hunting' activity for the cats)There are plenty of great DIY ideas of how to have your cat 'work' for his food by finding it. These activities improve your cat's cognitive abilities but more importantly, they help the cat stuck in a house for life against boredom. However: finding food is not the same as 'hunting' , and this is where the claims are misleading. It is hard to imagine that any feline can be duped into thinking that this stationary, completely artificial plastic object is a 'prey'. They may bat at it the way they bat at random objects. They will probably eat the food that is in it. But are they going to feel the excitement of a hunt? I seriously doubt it. I would love it if someone invented a gadget that gives indoor cats the real thrill of a hunt, the chase, the killing of the prey and then eating it, the way they have evolved to eat. A gadget that caters to the real cat in them: the hunter, the carnivore. This toy will not deliver anything like this. Don't think that you solved all your cat's problems if you get this feeding system for him. Kudos to the inventor for bringing the concept of feeding our indoor cats more naturally into public awareness. Coming up with a feeding system that approximates the natural way cats eat is going to be an enormous challenge; way harder than devising the perfect toy or basket.
