This Dolphin Proteus DX3 robot replaces my 4-year-old Polaris TR36P; I hated cleaning the cloth zipper bag; also, I didn't always have the strength to pull the hose from the pool wall and reattach it when done swimming. The Proteus DX3 runs all over my small 10x30 foot pool and picks up all the icky tiny gravel that somehow gets in from the asphalt composition roof of my house (this is with the basket that came with the robot – I did not order the extra fine filters). The robot only weighs about 12 or 13 pounds, so getting it out of the pool is easy and cleaning the basket is a breeze. I have never seen the DX3 crawl up the 2 steps to get to the tanning shelf, but it does crawl up the wall next to the steps to the tanning shelf and vacuums the floor of the shelf. I can easily leave the DX3 at the corner of the pool with the little blue hose unobtrusively slithering down the corner wall while I swim. Negatives: The only thing I don't like about the robot is that I can't set it to do more than once a day; I have to turn it off and turn it back on for any subsequent pass on any one day; I don't recall any of the other robots that I considered sweeping more than once a day either. Also, after 2 weeks in close to 100-degree California heat, the small blue hose feels like it won't last a season without somehow disintegrating; it has that somewhat slimy and roughened feel to it already. I have to keep moving the controller to keep it out of the sun (per the instructions) so I need to find some kind of shed or container to permanently keep it out of the weather.
