MEDITATIONS is not a story of plot, characters, and a theme. One character guides the reader to a “plot”—one of life and meaning with the reward of a theme of peace and value. Outlined with enumerated thoughts, MEDITATIONS allows the reader to read several statements or just one thought a day—or two days—or more and ponder. What a joy!

Marcus Aurelius is one of history's most amazing characters. This book hits on topics of the role and importance of the mind having logical thinking or acting sensibly, reasonably, free from irrational emotions and acting on impulse, how to deal with others and accept their imperfections or flaws.

Some pearls of wisdom, but a bit disappointing
I was a little disappointed. Yes, there are some pearls of wisdom here, but a lot of fairly worthless chaff, a lot of optimistic opinion expressed as if it were fact, and the first chapter, of no value to anyone other than nostalgia value to the author. What would be useful would be to have someone scan the book and pick out the the dozen or two pearls of wisdom and put those in a small pamphlet and save a lot of reading. I have no doubt the author was a fine man, but I had such high expectations from what I had been led to believe was a legendary "classic" book that to my mind, I found that the reality of the book was a bit disappointing.
