Downfall (Blu-ray), Shout Factory, Drama

We've all seen the memes, but the whole film is absolutely worth your time. Bruno Ganz delivers an incredible performance as the world's most evil man. Some would, and have, decried this film as humanizing Mustache Man, but that is exactly what we need to remember: he was a man and his evil did not simply pop into existence with him, and unfortunately it didn't fully die with him either. Evil like his must always be fought, lest we doom ourselves to repeating it.

I'm not sure I would have understood who many of the people in the storyline were if I didn't have an idea before watching this movie. That said, even with subtitles, it was intense, and the information at the end was interesting as it explained what happened to most of the people involved after the war ended. It sounds like Traudl Junge felt a lot of guilt about her role after the war ended, hopefully she was able to make peace with herself at some point. I wasn't completely sold on the portrayal of Eva Braun, in reading about her I was never under the impression that she was completely naive and unaware of the things going on around her, and they portrayed her as almost immature in a lot of ways. It is sad about the Goebel's children, but Josef was evil, and he deserved what happened to him. This is well worth watching if you're interested in the last hours of Adolph Hitler's life within his bunker as the western allies and Russians brutally surround a crumbling, WWII Berlin.

I love Downfall it's such an accurate depiction of the Fall of Berlin during WW2! Would recommend to any WW2 history enthusiasts!
