Dr. Elsey's clumping cat litter has changed me and my way of cleaning her litter box. I dirt added it to my existing litter. Big difference. The floor was cleaner and the box seemed a little bit different. So I decided to throw away the whole thing, rinse out the box and start just with Dr. Elsey's litter. I have beautiful wood floors. The next day hardly no sign of litter from the box. Now I do have a mat that is supposed to catch most of the litter from the box before she gets to the floor. And I expect it not to catch all of it. But darn there was next to nothing on my floor. Now I just keep a dust pan next to her box and her own private small waste can. She is so lucky she really has her own private cat bathroom with a view and nobody knows it. Spoiled little girl. But I love her and we live alone. So she can have what she wants. Me too.
I had to switch from Special Kitty litter to Dr. Elsey's because they changed the formula on Special Kitty and it is no longer any good. I am very impressed with Dr. Elsey's scooping litter. It clumps better than any other litter I have tried and I have tried just about all of them. Even though it is unscented, which my cats appreciate, it still does a pretty good job on controlling odor. It is SO easy to scoop out of the litter boxes; the clumps are tight hard little balls that just scoop right out without breaking up and making more work for me. The price is higher than what I used to pay for the Special Kitty brand but it is very good quality and is worth it. This will be my new go to litter unless Special Kitty goes back to their old formula. If you're like me and found yourself needing to find a new litter, try Dr. Elsey's litter. You won't be disappointed. Dr. Elsey was my veterinarian many years ago in CO and he is the sweetest person and the best veterinarian my cats have ever had. I'm happy to support someone like him. My cats give this litter and Dr. Elsey a big thumbs up! >^..^<
This is the only brand of cat litter that I use in my cat prefers. It clumps up nice and hard, making it easy to clean the litter box is highly any tracking or order. My technique is sprinkling a little baking soda at the bottom of the litter box this additional step, using the aluminum litter box helps to eliminate smell, and odors . In addition, the litter clumps up and gets nice and hard quickly, which makes removal very easy.
The issue I have and why I did not give it 5 stars is because I never get this type of cat litter I get one of the others by Dr. Elsie. I have 8 indoor cats and with so many cats I really need the low dust and trackaility of this litter, unfortunately I get the blue and white bag. Sometime ago my order was changed I presume due to the inability to get my first choice and now I never get this litter at all. I also believe that the formula has changed as it sticks to the bottom of the bax.
I needed a lighter clumping litter for my 17 yr old cat. He was having difficulty moving his regular litter around once it got wet, it was too heavy. This litter is easier for him to move, doesn't get stuck in his paws as much, and much less tracking.
Everyone said this is the best cat litter. They were right!!! I used it in my PetPivot Automatic cat pan and one box almost lasted a month for 3 cats. It absorbs and drys more than other cat litters. I usually use lite cat litters the best being Tidy Cat and Fresh Step it blew them out of the water.
I have 9 indoor cats and when my normal litter changed I changed. This clumps hard (get metal scooper) I used three low track unscented litters all on a black rug and everyday kept track. Not only was there less outside of the box it was used more! No fragrance and less scent. I would give it 80 stars
To be honest, the dust is incredibly BAD and it's called CLEAN TRACKS! It's NOT! It's ALL OVER the items in the room where the litter box is, and even travels to the next room. It's awful and it means when I'm changing the litter or cleaning the litter bin that I'm inhaling it as well. The litter gets tracked ALL OVER my house by my two cats so I'm constantly bending over and picking it up many times each day or sweeping it up. But what are you gonna do? I've ONLY used Dr. Elsey's litter since my kitties were 6 weeks old. I've never tried anything else but I'm told other brands are dusty, too.
I've used a lot of cat litters that claim to be hard-pack, and that usually means nothing. They create crumbly balls that you need to get out fast before the break down into the litter spreading their stinky-joy throughout. But this litter — it creates a strong solid ball that refuses to crumble, is so very easy to scoop out cleanly, and they may be right about it also not tracking. I'm buying again for those, ahem, Magnificent Balls of Clay.
The litter itself is great. The problem is in the cardboard box the litter is in. The box is not LEAK PROOF. So when I opened up the Walmart shipping box, there was a lot of litter which leaked out of the Dr. E box and that litter made a mess all over the place. I would buy this product again, but I would not order it to ship to me from any store. I would go to purchase it in person. I think Dr. E litter should be packaged in a plastic bag prior to putting it inside their card board box.
