Dr. Kildare: Movie Collection (DVD)

A wonderful move about a doctor who really cared about his patients.

One of MGMs best series with 9 Lew Ayres films as Dr Kildare %2615 total with Lionel Barrymoe as Dr Gillespie with a great cast of returning characters. It ranks with The Thin Man %26 the Andy Hardy films as of the greatest series of the pre war period.

l really enjoy watching the movies of years ago. this was a great one.

Great series

It had been a while since I've seen these but these are just as I remembered them being. It reminded of watching movies on older tvs somehow..though the picture is great.

This was a decent, serialized (pre-television) "doctor movie". Lew Ayers played Dr. Kildare, and Lionel Barrymore played Dr. Gillespie; IMHO, they both did a decent job, and portrayed the US healthcare system as it was in the 1930s and '40s. Laraine Day was introduced as Dr. Kildare's love interest later in the series; again IMHO, she did not do a decent job of acting... frankly, I've thought she came up short in every role I've seen her play. "No sense of humor" was her fatal flaw. Anyway - the series was decent overall, and entertaining. It might have been a longer series but for the fact that Lew Ayers was fired by the studio for claiming the "Conscientious Objector" to his draft board! He eventually did serve in a non-combat role, and I've read he did a very good job in that capacity.
